I've narrowed it down to either a 60" toro 3000 or the hustler 60" x one what would y'all do? I have about 5 acres to mow and it is all a steady slope! Is one better than other on hills ?

Coming from someone that cuts grass for a living. Those would not be in my top 2 choices. I run exmark's but if I didn't it would be Scag. The toro would be my choice out of the 2 mentioned. It is basically a exmark with a different deck.

I would really look at one with the shocks on front and rear. Mowing that much would give your butt a real workout.

own a toro 50 inch cut couldn't pay me to buy another one, had problems on top of problems thing wont run straight, got weak pump or something. ive got a good friend in mcminnville at the kabota dealership giving good deals on the bad boy mower. looks like a commercial grade mower with good price

I have had a Scag for 5 years. The only problem I have ever had was a broken belt which was easy to replace due to the design to minimize down time. Everything has been thought out to make it get back in service. emoThumbsup

Don't own or need one, but several people I know who make a living on their Scags love them. I really appreciate their design for ease of servicing and toughness. Good luck. Homestead in Cleveland are good people.

I mow as a business. I've owned them all. To me the Ferris is second to none. Alittle pricey but as they say you get what you pay for.

The scags are really good mowers and they are offering 0% interest for 48 months right now. $6000 mower would be $125 a month. Thinking of getting one myself.

For that size lot and steady slope, I prefer a stand-up model with sulky/velke/jungle wheels. The standups are lighter which means less rutting and lower fuel use. Things to compare are pump size/quickness, spindles, deck thickness, and personal fit. I like a floating deck for better cut quality on bumpy areas. Another advantage of a standup is your knees act as shock absorbers, rather than your back on a riding model.

I like SCAGs, both Sequoyah and Homestead are good dealers. Just like with outboards, you want a shop that has the ability to quickly service your mower, when the need arises.

Also watch Lawnsite and craigslist to follow used prices. High quality mowers sell for more used, even with high hours.

Toro over hustler any day! I mow steep hills with a 52" walk behind ferris and never had problems. Toro makes a great machine. Had a 72" zmaster for 3 weeks and was stolen on mtn creek road along with everything else on the trailer. It was a great mower while I had it. My opinion-

I cut grass on the side and that's all I own is toro. I have a 60, 40, 30 inch cut and would not trade the world for none of them. Have good results out of all three.

SCAG, best mower Ive ever bought. Unreal power, smooth operation, all welded decks, shock absorbing seats and foot platforms. Do yourself a favor and go check them out.
