Hiawassee & Grasshopper Area

I fish out of b&b marina every monday night, and on sunday when I can.
what I can tell you is that the bass are starting to move out of the shallow water
for the most part, but have not yet reached the summer deep holes.
Hiawasse will always have some shallow bass along the banks in the upper part of the river and flipping is your best bet for catching them there. The springs are also very good at times but we haven't had much luck with them yet .maybe after this week they will be in them I don't really know. Try the shallow grass
at the mouth of gunstocker in the late afternoons with a buzzbait or spinnerbait
if the water is comming up,or the grass on the main riverbanks, if the water is moving at all this can be a great pattern!

Great info ranman! I haven't ever fished the Hiwassee area but there seem to be alot of good looking areas on the map. It sounds like you have fished some springs in the area before. In my area of the lake I have fished a few of the springs and some of them really produce a lot of water and some of them only a very small amount. Do most of the springs in the Hiwassee area produce much or is it variable? Is there a particular spring that has been good for you? You don't have to share it with me 'cause I know how great a place to fish they are in the winter and the summer but do you fish them often and do you do well on them?

they fluctuate with the rainfall. like I said they haven't been that good yet this year
the water temp is still in the low to mid 70's so I don't look for them to really be stacked up in them yet.The wassie is a great river, low pressure for the most part lots of current, food etc. Usually takes 10+ pounds to win our monday night dogfights. 3-5 pounds for big fish. P.S. don't tell anyone!

It looks like a great area and I know that there is less pressure on the fish the farther you get away from Chattanooga. It's fun to hear about areas other than what I usually fish. The way I look at it, fish are fish no matter where you fish for them and certain basic patterns should hold up to a certain degree no matter how pressured the fish are. I just have to figure out how to outsmart them. Where does that dogfight run out of? What does it cost to fish it? I know that there always used to be one out of Harrison bay and at least one out of Chester Frost each week. I haven't fished many of them. I like to fish for the sport of it, to figure out patterns that work and to have a food source should I ever need it. I don't eat much fish but I really like it the way I fix it. Bass is okay but I almost never eat it. It's a sporting fish in my book. Bluegills and crappies tend to be what I look for when I'm going to have a fish fry or something.

Ranman, can you post some info on the dogfights? I'm trying to convince my father-in-law to get into some local tournaments with me...he owns the boat. Also, do you know Tom or Gene Roberts?
