I'm wanting to start a fishing team at a local high school. I'm not 100 % sure how to start. I've done a little research and even talked to someone at school. Not sure what next step is. I kinda want to get the ball rolling quick. Does anybody have any ideas where to start? Any help would be appreciated.

Well you need to get the approval from the principal of the high school. I went through something similiar in college. I'm pretty sure though the principal is the one you need to talk to and not the athletic director if they even have one. But I'm not 100% sure, depending on the size of the school. That's where you need to start. Once he is ok with it being a "club" then you should be able to go from there.

Good luck

Goto Bassmasters website and follow the link for bass nation high school. There is a high school section with all the details, costs, and outlines for documentation for the team and the school.

yes first you need to get approval from school board, then find a teacher that is willing to coach or at least help you coach. some schools may be willing to let you without a teacher van buren school will not , we run our program as a after school program . after that its up to kids to get members, then go to bassmaster or flw , they both have high school sections and follow the online aapplications on getting them registered and start fishing

It is for Red Bank High. I think it might be hard to find a teacher willing to coach. I know the athletic director personally bUT her plate is pretty full. I might be able to talk her into it.

Thats a big school. If it's just a "club" I don't think you would need a teacher or any staff involved. However, having an adult in the mix would help a ton. If you do talk to them sell it as a club and not as a sport. That's what I have seen work the best with regards to other clubs but not fishing unfortunately. Now that the secrets out maybe some Alumni from the school might help. Never underestimate Alumni. Knowing the right people is 99% of the battle.

That's what I'm hoping for. I know that there are a few on here that went or live around Red Bank. I just don't want my son to miss out. I know he can go to another school and fish on their team, but he doesn't really want to do that. He wants to fish for his school.
