I know I shouldn't read or post in the political portion of this forum, but I, like many others, have succumbed to the curiosity and have become a regular reader. I have a question for some of the members that post here frequently. Why would you support the Democratic Party? Before you spout off some verbal diarrhea, keep reading. I ask this question because I truly don't understand how anyone could support TODAY'S Democratic Party. I'm not talking about history here; I know that both parties have contributed significantly to what this country is today - to deny that would be ignorant. But what is it about the party that draws you? Does it not occur to you that the "working man's party" has the unconditional support of the Hollywood elite - the group that is farthest removed from reality in our society? Do you not realize that the Democratic Party is supported, by and large, by the most uneducated and easily influenced groups in this country? Do you really think that the U.S. can prop up the weak, lazy and incapable citizens in our society and still survive as a nation? I want to be very clear, I'm not trying to call anyone out or start a thread that will have the admins biting their nails (you guys are great), but I am a young man that has become very uneasy about the future of this nation. I don't buy into Republican ideals blindly and without my own due diligence. There are plenty of problems within the Republican Party and there are things that I don't agree with. But when you really look at the direction that the Democratic Party is taking us, does it not worry you? Again, this is not meant to start a pissing contest. I would just like for you to have an opportunity to explain why you support it in a way other saying "because it's better than yours". Fire away

Do you ride the little bus to school? I think I have explained myself.

The little bus to school huh, this coming from someone that educates or kids, yup you pretty much explained yourself.

Personally I am a lot like you I really dont like discussing religion/politics and/or money ventures in public was always raised that these are rude topics to discuss in a public place. For me its not so much about Democrat/Republican but more about how I relate to the candidate or public officials ideals. I was to young to vote for Reagan but would have I did vote for Clinton and did vote for Obama. This country was founded on the inability to agree, just look at the issues that faced the first Contiental Congress they couldnt agree on anything (and every memeber had a beef with each other). What really set me on Obama was hearing the idea that we could/need to pull together as a nation united not Republicans not Democrats not Yuppies not Rednecks but Americans uniting together to pull OUR country out of the turmoil and steer it out of the direction its going. This would be ideal however I am not nieve to believe we live in an ideal world. Its human nature to create confrentation so disagreeing is inevitable. I just hope and pray for all my American brothers and sisters that we can together pull out of this and learn from our mistakes. And my take on politics is the old addage "trying to prevent an insane person from doing insane things is in itself insane"

Remember to always practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty.

Little school bus? You mean the bus that regular kids make fun of because there are mentally challenged kids on it?

I think you do and find this comment about as idiotic as it can get!

You sound like a smart guy rattletrapper. Unfortunately there are people on here who don't look at things objectively. (Republicans and democrats). I don't call myslef either as I have stated in many previous posts. I to believe Reagan and Clinton were great and I admit that I voted for Obama but I have been kicking myself for it for months now.

I'm sure you don't care, but even though I don't agree with most of what you post, you just lost any type of respect that I had. The only thing that I can figure that has molded your views and disrespect is (garbage in - garbage out).

My brother in law is Down Syndrome I take GREAT OFFENCE to this statement. I'm sure Dr. Scales would like to know your views of "short bus people"

Well if I offended anyone I am sorry. Now that you guys mention it, it was idiotic. I will try to choose my words more carefully.

Rattle Trapper...that was a well said piece. Thank you for a intelligent post. I think that you have every right for concern about this GREAT COUNTRY. I cringe when I see all the $$$$$$...going for bail-outs, buying votes, pork spending. Is there no stopping these people? Yes there is....VOTE them out.

oggism, I certainly hope that you are completely satisfied with your vote. You mention bi-partisenship. Have you seen any of that yet? Doing dirty deeds behind closed doors....ain't rally reaching accross any aisles...is it? Take the $100 million BRIBE to Nebraska for the healthcare vote, guess who gets to foot that bill?

And possum.....that was a VERY DEMOCRATIC statement...about the "short-bus". Nacy Pelosi...would be so proud of you.

"DON'T BLAME ME-I VOTED FOR THE AMERICAN!!!!!

This ain't the first time you have offended people on her with you quick to spout antics.
I had a professor that use to say that is engaging your mouth before your brain comes on line.

Possum, I have a niece that has Downs. Two great kids that my girls went to school with, one had Downs the other was mildly retarded. The young man that had Downs was elected King of the Home Court voted on by the student body. He since has passed away. The other young fellow was the Athletic Trainer, graduated and working full time! A friend of mine, "Wally" from Talk 102 Radio is in the hospital right now or he probably would look you up and kick you ass over such a stupid, callous, senseless remark! He has a daughter, Katie" that has Downs. I know there are many, many others out there with children, relatives and friends, with all types of mental and physical handicaps that would take tremendous offense to any type statement like that! Just be careful about what you say openly! Saying something to a friend, a buddy, as a crude joke, might be one thing, but to say something like that out in public is totally wrong and potentially dangerous! Just some free advice, take it however you want. Thank you for the apology!

My brother has been severely retarded from birth. You ought to spend some time with a family with that sort of challenge to see even with your profound ignorance how lucky and blessed you are. Shame on you.

elwestb...are you talking about a young man named RYAN? Went to Silverdale Academy? If not...this was one great young man. It was my honor to meet him.

Possom, You said something very offensive and apologized for it. I forgive you! We all say stuff w/o thinking sometimes and typing it can come across even worse.

RT, Good thread. I personally feel like both parties have been hijacked by greedy bureaucrates. All they seem to care about is money and power. They feel threatened by average americans who dont want to be affiliated w/ the 2 established parties. Just because you dont agree with a party doesnt make you a "Fence-strattler" or a "Tea-Bagger".
I want what is best for America and for the citizens of this great country. I dont like what I see is happening now! I try to research a person, that I plan to vote for, as much as I can and I vote for whoever holds the closest values to mine. No matter what the party is. When you can be a career politician and just one day say, "Im no longer a dem" or "Im no longer a repub, Im going to switch parties today." w/o changes you fundimental beliefs--That seems a little fishy to me!emoScratch
I feel you can never do enough research because there will always be lies and misconceptions that you will have to weed through. So stick to you principles and use your good judgement that God has given you! emoUSA

not as happy with my vote as I would like to be in all honesty however do still see a lot of mud throwing from all sides angles and corners and personally when it comes down to it how can anything get done when everyone dislikes or disagrees with whatever counterparts say or try. there is no "middle ground" in politics so I will continue to be myself and try to help my American brothers and sisters by supporting local businesses and people
