In the spirit of Martin Luther King dream day what is yours?

I have a dream that one day we will actually have everyone on the same page when it comes to race and the American dream. In my dream it does not stop there, special interest groups will stop focusing on themselves and really, truly, look at what is best for all people. Far too often there are groups of folks that focus on themselves behind doors of noble fronts. This is true not only in race issues but even more today in the political races and sides. I am sick and tired of black on white issues and Democrat on Republican issues. Is not the true goal to make it better for all? Too many are concerned with just their own advancement and power increase. When fractions of some groups saw the benefit of jumping of the Trayvon Martin case there were a bunch who did it, including our very own president. Where are they now on the white 82 year old who was beaten to death by two black teens? Where are they now on the three black teens that beat the white kid up on the bus? Where are they now on the two black kids and one half breed that shot and killed the white kid base ball player? Where are they every day that blacks on blacks kill each other in gang related issues in the inner cities all across the U.S.? Most of them are silent due to those stories not lending themselves to support, increase and promote their cause or their personal advancement. emoTskTsk There were many black leaders and groups who felt this same way as I do but their voices were silenced by the other self interest groups who did not want this message heard. But it does not stop there. It is every day, you see this kind of thing happening without regard to race or color. Take the Syria issue, how many times have we heard the Republicans lately attacking Oboma for not reacting to the war that is going on over there? The constant down grading of him for his lack of what they call...Leadership, in this crisis. I am not sure we should even get involved? Since when did we become the world keeper? Since when did we have to jump in with our money and resources every time the world has a problem some where else. That whole thing sounds just like another Iraq to me. Another dictator who has been put on the target list for a tool for a political party to use to bash the president. Don't get me wrong, I am not big on Obama either but that is being used for nothing more then an attack on him by the republican side to belittle his administration. There is no doubt in my mind that if he was doing the opposite they would find fault with that also. Why, you may ask? Because they know that in another year their party will be fighting for a president with their party to be elected. It is all about the old traditional question of, "What is in it for me?".

My dream is that this kind of thing may one day go away. This side taking and bashing take a back seat to the actual thought of what is best for all people. Without the consideration of who will benefit the most from it. Imagine what progress we could have if all people, races, countries, companies ex.... would focus on the betterment of all mankind. Would that not be great!?

Yea, that is my dream, knock down the fences, the walls, the political party, the race issue, any kind of segregation...it would be amazing the results and progress we could achieve. emoAngel Jmax

Jmax I agree with most of what you said. The only thing I don't agree with is that there is a "side" in the ongoing issue of race connected with entitlement and violence. There is right and wrong, and no in between. We have a sub culture of blacks in this country, a growing subculture, and that is supported by a large population of decent blacks. This sub-culture embraces violence, a sense of the "gimme, gimme" entitlement, supports and creates crime, and honestly hates white people, no matter if they are republican or democrat. It is hard to find anything like this unless you go back to the old Nazi party in Germany. Sure, we had race issues years ago, but in my opinion, the gains that were made by blacks while Mr. King was alive, have begun to vanish as they have allowed thugs to take over and become the face that a lot of people that are black. Lets also not forget that many of the people that marched, where white. How many blacks do you see marching to support a white cause or a crime where the person that did the crime was black and victim white? How many times do you see white people marching with blacks if there is a white on black crime? Often.

I know this is a simple example of what I am talking about, but ask yourself what kind of music you listen to. Think about it. Most people, Hispanic, Asian, White, American Indian, etc, listen to varied and different music. Everything from Bluegrass, to pop, to rap, to country, to classical. You will be hard pressed to find a culture or sub-culture in America that only listens to ONE type of music. That one exception to music is hip-hop that is totally embraced by thug blacks. I have never heard them play, or listen to one other thing. Interesting huh? Seems to me if you aren't a racist, you'd be open to the music of people different from you. The fact is, they aren't because they are totally into the violence and separation it gives them from the rest of America. In addition ask your self how many white versions of the following groups there are; NAACP, American Negro College Fund, National Urban League, African American Planning Commission, The National Organization of Black Accountants, Miss Black USA, BET, National Action Network, 100 Black Men, and I could go on and on. Show me the same type groups, white included, that exclude everyone else because they are a different skin color? The amount of prejudice in the black community is amazing. Ask yourself this question; do you call yourself an Irish American, or a Scottish American? Most people chose to call themselves American, because being an American comes first. Not so with "African Americans". They choose to be African first (a failed continent if there every was one) and American second. If you CHOOSE to be a different group in this country, and not join the melting pot, then why would you find it odd that other people don't understand you?

I'll also call your attention to this, and I think it is a real and present danger to America. If you live in Ooltewah, Harrison or even Hollywood, you can't speak about the black crime issues and the related hatred of the "thug" culture with any authority. You aren't there and neither is Sean Penn. You don't live a block down the street from people that would love to shoot you in the head or rob you blind. You don't endure the "thumping" cars, and disrespect for everyone or the rampant crime. I can't judge what things are like in Iraq, because I don't live in Iraq. But here is the real danger; folks that DO live in areas where they are surrounded by decent blacks and whites, good neighborhoods, aren't hearing the alarm bells that other people not as fortunate are sounding. The thug culture is taking over our cities, and before too much long, it WILL move in areas like Ooltewah and Harrison and other rural, peaceful areas. In 10 or 15 years you won't recognize some of these places. The city is gobbling up land (just ask the folks on Hwy 58) and once they do, section 8 housing comes into play. This means that the house that got foreclosed on next door to you, can now be rented to someone getting section 8 AND all their criminal friends. Wait until that happens and see how quickly a neighborhood is destroyed. It is happening all across Chattanooga and other cities. South Hwy 58 used to be a wonderful place to live and shop. Now people have begun to call it the "little hood". I can recall when it was a one lane road, we had a Red Food Store on it, and everyone knew and respected one another and felt safe shopping and visiting there. That wasn't so long ago.

Just a couple of weeks ago, middle class and upper class blacks cheered the federal court striking down the law in New York city that has reduced crime by over 50%. The law was called "stop and frisk", and was used only with people who looked suspicious. This is akin to the "non-profiling" stance taken by our government in regard to terrorism. Searching a 90 year old white or black grandmother at an airport while Arabs walk by isn't getting the job done. It's stupid, it directs resources to areas that don't need attention. It's the same in Chattanooga as it is over most of the country. It isn't the whites, the Asians, the Hispanics that are doing the crime. It's the THUG blacks. Not all blacks, but the THUGS. I hold ALL blacks responsible that try to defend them. We often wonder why decent muslims won't denounce violence, but we allow the same thing to happen with decent blacks in our own city. The finger of blame needs to be pointed at the problem and we need to stop pretending it isn't there. Color and religion are not things that entitle you to hide behind them and destroy a community or a country.

I personally think that some of Dr. King's Dream has become a nightmare.
