Hey guys,

If you go to this link you can play the video I sent southerncats awhile back. He has it up on his site now. Listen to me grunt in the video and my friend Josh make fun of me a little bit. Just click on the play button and you're good to go. That could never get old reeling in a big one like that.

Nothing like seeing a freshwater shark come to the surface.

That's neat... except for the "grunts" you were quiet as church mouse. But I bet I know what you were thinking. emoLaugh It's interesting... when you plu the numbers into "the formula" for estimating fish weight... length x girth x girth / 800 = weight. 45 x 34 x34 = 65.025 Almost dead on your scale weight of 66, the formula is pretty darn accurate.

That was a very interesting video. I do have one question. Why would there still be lines in the water if you were fighting a fish that big? The first thing I do when I or anyone in the boat gets a fish that we know is big on is pull all the lines up. Just curious. Really enjoyed the video!

I honestly usually get the rods out of the way as well, but southerncats seemed pretty confident it wouldn't be a problem. With 30 lb line you can really put a lot of pressure on a fish and keep it under wraps, most of the time. I didn't really say much in the video because honestly, I was just really nervous at what was on the end of my line. I was pretty intent on getting it into the boat. You know a huge huge fish when you feel it on the line.

Richard,

I did that calculation as well and was amazed at how accurate it was. It's a nice thing to keep in mind if there isn't a scale around. I honestly don't like weighing fish a lot as it can be a pain on me and the fish. Although I like taking a digital scale and weighing the fish in a net. Just subtract the net weight and it's much easier than trying to get a scale in a fish.

Great video man that stuff is cool. I'm like FF the first thing that went through my mind is why the other guys weren't getting the other lines up. As soon as I thought that another thought came to mind that Southern Cats is a pro and he knows more about what he is doing than me.
Was that a Berkely Glowstik you were using? I have one but haven't used it much. Looks like it handled that fish well.
