A lot of you all know I am an old Wal-Mart career man. 26 years with the company and still take pride in that. However I lost a lot of my respect for Wal-Mart when a lot of the old timers left and Sam passed away. I did not agree with a lot of what they were doing and changes they were making after Sam died. There were a bunch of us that jumped ship in 2003 and 2004 seeing those changes taking place. I had to read this report a couple times and still sit here scratching my head. Did anyone else see this one and have some thoughts on this. emoScratch

Lets do a food drive at Wal-Mart to help out Wal-Mart workers who are in need for the holiday. emoEek Really!!! Seriously!!!! emoBang Setting up bins so the customers can donate food to the people who work there. You can't make this up. Why not try paying them a little more and giving these folks some more hours so they can buy their own food?

I'm not making this up, here is the article....

This kind of weird thinking and off the wall "Care" is the kind of crap that made me retire from this company, making the kind of money that Wal-Mart makes and then asking this. emoBang Jmax

A company spokesman said it shows employees taking care of each other. .....it's too bad the company doesn't.
I'm also tired of standing in line for thirty minutes to check out while staring at a dozen unocupied registers.

That is unreal and just ain't right. I suspect Sam would roll over in his grave if he knew what is going on now.

emoGrouphug for the Wallyworld Mgt....may be that they should look at their prices compared to their wages emoQuestion , bet the employees also get a discount on their purchases....(I Owe My Soul To The Company Store) by Tennessee Ernie Ford....his thoughts have covered many a year in this nation. We are the richest nation yet we allow neighbors to go hungry emoQuestion emoQuestion. Sad that the corporate greed creates the above scenario.... emoGeezer emoUSA

It's a shame. Walmart pays such low wages that a very high percentage of their employees are forced to Govt assistance. Walmart actually trains and directs workers on how to get on govt programs. A study in Wisconsin discovered that each Walmart store costs the taxpayers more than 900k per year. I made the decision more that a year ago not to shop at Walmart. We buy in bulk from Cosco, and shop at at Publix and elsewhere. I can't in good conscience shop at a place that treats and pays its workers so poorly.

QUIT GOING TO WAL-MART ALL THE TIME AND SPREAD THE WEALTH EVERY CHANCE YOU GET.....I DON'T BUY GROCERIES THERE, I LOVE PUBLIX FOR MOST OF THAT...MOST OF THE TIME THEY ARE NOT THAT MUCH CHEAPER IF ANY, ANYWAY!

No one is putting a damn gun to the employee's head. If they're not earning enough, They can find another place to work. Geez.

... yea, but don't you think it's pretty damn crappy {tried to clean that up a bit} for a multi, multi BILLION dollar company to ask the public for donations to a food drive for their own personal!?! Yes, those people can go look for other employment. But I know for a fact that Wally World intentionally holds the hours and wages down on employees so that they are not classified as full time employees and not be required to pay other benefits. They will work three part timers instead of one full time worker. But I, as a company would not let it be known to the public that I was having a food drive for my own employees! No matter how small or large of a company that I was, No way! Too em bare ass ing!

Walmart sucks. my youngest daughter works there and has for a lot of years.her pay has been topped out for about 6 years.and most will be working on Christmas.

My thoughts exactly, Jerry! The Titonia store has employees that have been there since the store opened.
They need more in the deli and stop all the weekly charity (beggers) from hitting you up at the entry/exits!

A single store came up with what it obviously thought was a good idea. This was not a corporate policy. Guess it didn't work out like they thought it would. Oops. Get over it.

What companies, or you and I for that matter, choose to offer employees in hours and wages and benefits is entirely up to the business - within the limits of the law. What the worker chooses to accept in hours and wages and benefits is entirely up to the individual. BOTH must agree for an employer/employee relationship to exist. Why do some folks want to try to force their own standards on an agreed-to relationship? Either one can end the relationship if they become unhappy.

If I choose to pay someone $30 to mow my lawn and a man wants to do it for $30, what right does my next door neighbor have to say "no, you must pay him $50 because I don't think $30 is enough"??? Maybe he thinks I have to offer more hours and benefits too? Duh.

Don't frequent the businesses that operate in ways that you disagree with. Fine. Don't like the wages and hours? Don't work there. Pretty simple, and basic to our way of life. Geez.

That makes about as much sense as Obama Care.

No Sir! Walmart at least has a game plan and method to their madness to benefit their company! Obama Care has no explanation or benefit to anyone!?!

LOL +1

Never been to publix. How do they compare to walmart on their prices? Dang sure can't pay bilo's prices!

Publix has a better quality product in my opinion. But just like anyone else you have to shop smart to save. We shop different stores for the sale prices for that week and only make purchases for what we need and not what we want unless no one has a certain item on sale and I just have to have it. We buy quantity when its on sale because we know we will need it at some point and it works out for us.

Publix prices are very high for the most part. You can find good deals when they have the buy one get one stuff. Aldi, is a good place for just straight up good prices compared to Wal Mart if you have one in your area.

Do you want a smaller gov't with less handouts?? Or do you want companies to pay a living wage?? Because you can't have both. If Walmart isn't going to pay the lady at the cash register a living wage, the taxpayer has to make up the difference via safety net programs. I for one, am growing tired of subsidizing the workers of highly profitable corporations.
