My friend for VA and I hit the lake again today and other then the high winds that came and went all day long we had a very nice day. No rain or tornadoes thank goodness. We tried a lot of different patterns both deep and shallow. Put seventeen bass in the boat today and had some pretty nice ones but no big kicker. :( Needed a kicker or two to get our weight on up there. Put three in the boat over three lbs each but none of them were over three and a half pounds. Also had a couple more good solid two and a halfers. Out best five would have been around 14.5 lbs to under 15 lbs. We would not have had a 3 lb average. Not great for what it has been taking to win a tournament but we had fun today catching them. Our baits of success were traps, spinner baits, shakeys and jerks. Most bass came from less then five foot. The deepest was about 14 feet. We also lost about six others and no telling how many we missed. emoScratch Seemed like a lot of them would just slap at it. I am looking forward to the top water (spook) bite turning on. I did not throw it today but should not be much longer if it stays warm like this. The only thing that made today cool was that stupid wind. Man, did it ever blow today out on that water. I bet when I try to sleep tonight my bed will still feel like it is moving. emoRolleyes Jmax

Ok would you like to share what you caught them on and where?? I tried my luck around the cut going into CFP from the lake and all I got was a 6lb blue cat.. And of all things on a T rig..

Ah...above..."Our baits of success were traps, spinner baits, shakeys and jerks." Those were the four baits we caught them on. As far as where, we caught almost all of them in secondary staging areas. Not all the way back into spawning areas but between the river and those. They seem to be on secondary points or points along the way back into spawning areas. Some were as shallow as a foot and some were out deeper in about five to ten. I think the bigger ones were in the deeper outer areas. I threw that @#*% TN rig until my arm hurt and never got one stinking fish. I hate that thing. emoBang I run into people who claim they caught a boat load on it and I have caught one and lost one since getting it. emoHoppingmad Anyone up to give me lessons on it? Please? emoRolleyes

Most of ours were on traps, I think only one was on a shakey, four on a jerk and two on a spinner bait. So if my math is right that is ten on a trap. Use several colors....red worked until the sun came out, then we used shad colors after the sun came up. emoThumbsup I hope this will help you there bluewingjb. emoBigsmile

Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend at the CFF on the Nick. emoGrouphug Jmax

This @#*% TN rig is a fad that will quickly fade off the scene as more anglers like yourself will come to their senses after a while. These umbrella rigs didn't just pop up this past year. Some were using this rig 10 years or so ago below Watts Bar dam. We have seen them while we were fishing for striped bass. I have fished with 3 or 4 different people from the forum that have thrown this rig while fishing with me for a few minutes and so far, none of them have even had a strike on the stupid faddish lure.

Oh yeah, we are going to hear of the 30 to 40 lb sacks coming off the rig and someone catching a 9 to 12 lb bass on this thing, or fishermen catching 50 to 60 bass on it in 1/2 days, but this is the exception to the rule. Besides that, those stupid rigs will wear out your shoulders, wrist, and arms.

Just stick to your spooks, shakey heads, worms, jigs, spinner baits, traps, and stuff like you have been doing and have confidence in and quit falling for these marketing ploys. You master a jig and no one will outfish you, no matter what they are throwing. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Agree with dk wholeheartedly-seems like there are times when they will bite anything but some baits stand the test of time-how many people are using the chatterbait(on a regular basis)wasnt it the hottest thing going a few years back?

You know the chatterbaits were really the thing a few years ago. I had an older frie ndthat quit fishing cold turkey in the early eighties and gave me several tackle boxes a few months ago just full. Unreal how many chatterbaits were in there. I have some vintage old lures now though.
