I have been wondering how it has been going for you guys this morning. I have been checking the forum to see if anyone was saying how the fishing was. I hope to fish my first CFF this year. Finally getting some weekends off looking forward to seeing you guys out there.

As always a couple found some. I heard something like 11 lbs won and something like seven was big bass. I got a call from Derek and he said it was over and he only had one 3 lber. Me and James just got one of our drops out of the way., ;) Jmax

I looked for you at the weigh in Jmax, but you were a no-show. I didn't know that you quit early and got by the fire. Just proves one thing. You are smarter than Bent Rod and me both. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Glad to hear you got out there Jim and James. It was a very cold day, I stayed in. I had hoped that you would share what didn't work as that is often what will help us all figure out what would work. I thought that the post tournament posts were supposed to be informative, your's isn't. :)

Like Jim said, air cold, water cold, we bombed out. For details on what not to do, well we tried pretty much everything except a jerk bait and I did fish a swim bait a little and Jmax threw a TN rig a little. The list of what didn't work is: T rigged big worms, T rigged finesse worms, jigs, spinner baits, traps, c'rig plastics, crank baits. As far as where it didn't work, well we fished deep, shallow, rock, bluffs, wood, we fished places in the current, places back in pockets, staging places outside of spawning flats, we even went shallow up on the flats. We didn't get it done and couldn't buy a bass of no kind, of no size. When the drum hit my finesse worm I thought its about time and when I felt the weight I told Jim, "get the net this is a good one." After a few seconds we both figured the way it was fighting that it wasn't a bass and that was about the only thing we were right on all day. All in all I did enjoy getting out although the boat rides were brutal and it was good to see everyone at the beginning. On a side note if you read this and know of some good fishing gloves for cold weather please let me know what they are. My hands are my biggest problem trying to fish in the cold. I apologize for not sticking it out to the bitter end, it would have been good to see everyone and congratulate the winners in person but Jim and I were just worn out, frustrated, and cold and after trying everything we knew to do and fishing all kinds of different water and having 1 1/2 hours left to go we just tucked tail and ran for home. I am looking forward to Riverpark in 3 weeks or so if for no other reason than to prove to myself that I can catch a bass of some kind. Jim and I just seem to be jinxed on the Nick what can I say.

A big congrats to the winners and to everyone who at least caught a bass and braved the elements to the bitter end.

Everybody around here has quit carrying wool gloves, a friend in the clothing biz said they are too high. Anyway i found some in McMinnville last week at an Army surplus store, I bet they all have them. True they are liners but 2 pair worked fine Sat. Just cut out some fingers to work with the hooks.

Bent rod, thanks for the info, wool gloves sound good, I was also concerned about cold and wet, how do the wool gloves do in sleet, rain, snow? I'll check with the Army store right down the street from where I work. emoThumbsup

James, thanks for the report! I don't do well with the cold either but I do well with latex or nitrile gloves under work gloves, the kind you can get cheap from Harbor Freight. These keep me out there most days. I also will put one of those hand warmers in the palm if it's real bad and I never have had to stop because of temps in the teens and twenties.

Bass Pro shops have some 100MPH gloves for near $30.00 pair. They are very wind proof, water resistant, & work well with the hand warmers. I have found them to be easy to fish with with no fingers cut out, good while running , good in snow & sleet.......sonetimes if you look at snow ski shops, they may also have gloves that are good in the boats as well.......stay warm, .............. emoGeezer emoUSA

Thanks Polo and Strato-G for the glove suggestion. All the ideas have merit. The trick is to find something thin enough to allow some sensitivity while also holding some warmth. I have some of the Cabelas Guidewear fishing glommitts, the kind that the mitten part folds back exposing the ends of all your fingers. They are great on cool days but when it is cold like it was on Saturday they block the wind but they are so thin they just don't block the cold  . I guess I'm a whimp when it comes to the cold but I would like to find something that is waterproof, relatively thin yet insulates your hands from the cold. Now that I think about it if I could invent something like I'm talking about I could sell a few pairs I suppose. Anyway thanks for the suggestions and if anyone else has something that works for you then chime in here and let me know. Cold weather fishing gloves can just hi-jack this thread emoLaugh .

the best advice I can give on cold weather gloves that also allow for maximum sensitivity and is dirt cheap. Surgical gloves at Wal-mart. I think you get 50 pair for $ 4. They really work well...... if you think about it..... those gloves are to protect the individual from any micro-isms from getting on their skin. So, if these will keep disease born pathogens off your skin, they will keep wind and water off your skin. Also, you don't sacrifice sensitivity as these gloves are skin tight and very thin.

I use these cut resistant gloves from work. They are thin and the top side lets a little wind in sometimes but they have a grippy type material on the palm side which really helps sensitivity and don't loose the feel of the rod and reel. Not tried them in the rain but I'd say with the nitrile gloves under them they would be fine and work better. I've used them all winter and helped keep me warm.

The 100MPH gloves are thin, pull up on website & look & read about....works like the 100MPH suit as to insulator & wind resistant & lightweight.... emoGeezer emoUSA
