Kiffin - open mouth, insert foot

I would expect that Kiffin and gang will indeed bring their big boy pants. I am sure he and the entire staff knows how tough the SEC is. Everyone on that staff know how to win and all have had success in college or pro football, what makes everyone think that they don't know what they are doing? As far as recruiting, hell yes they got beat out by a lot of the rival schools, i would expect that considering the staff has only been togather for a month. Now, I fully expect for them to have a top 10 class next year, more like top 5. I am not bashing any other team, I have no need to. Tennessee has taken their lumps lately and very well may this coming year. Just don't know. It's an exciting time for us Vol fans.

Where was the outrage from fans and the SEC offices when Spurrior did the same thing to Lane earlier this year?!?!

Right now we are all over ESPN, SI, CFN.. If it's sports, they are talking UT Football.

When it comes to recruiting, NO publicity is BAD Publicity.

Kiffin did exactly what he wanted to with this. Good for him.

Im not a TN fan but I like the fire he has in his belly. I think they will be just fine as long as he listens to the very capable assistants he has surrounded himself with.

I remember Johnny Majors had several #1 recruiting classes at TN also and what did he do with it? PAt Dye said "there are plenty of good players to go around, its what you do with em when they get there." Can't wait til kick off! someone start a countdown !

One thing that can be said, Kiffin and Saban are opposites.
kiffen is loose liped
Saban is tight liped

Kiffin passes the mic around to his assistants.
Sabans assistants are off limits to the press.

Kiffin worrys about the external.
Saban only deals with the internal.

After listening to LT, how did Saban get by before he was on his staff and will Saban be able to recruit now that he is gone?

we will see what Kiffin can do in 2-3 years and maybe a suprise or two for this year..... im not counting on it as fulmer didnt have a good recruiting class for him lined up...

Kiffin does have a big mouth on him but i like the cockyness..... IT FITS IN WITH SABAN and MEYER JUST FINE!!!

Pretty confident there RR. I hope that the tide does well and an orange vs red SEC championship would be fun. I'm not sure that Kiffin can get it done soon either. I guess we'll see.

I hope Alabama wins all their games except for one.

(Against Tennessee)

GO BIG ORANGE

I don't remember Johnny Majors ever signing a #1 class, yet the team that he put on the field played better with less talent than what Fullmer has put on the field the past 16 years. Seems to me that a Majors coached team beat the daylights out of the #1 team Miami in a bowl one year. This was before the BCS or maybe Johnny would have won a NC.

I have never been a Fullmer fan and quit wearing my orange when he was hired. I only attended one game while he was HC and it was the most pitiful example of college football that I have ever seen. Left after the 3rd quarter, unable to stomach what I was seeing on the field and the Vols were ahead. I wasn't a Majors fan either and in my opinion, we haven't had a really good coach since Doug Dickey. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

So much for L.T.'s statment.
Saban just got his first commitment for the class of 2010.
WR. Keiwone Malone from

Memphis (TN) mitchell

Fishin' Junkie - 2/6/2009 8:20 AM I just have 1 question...Who will Coach Lame go with next year? Crompton, Coleman, or Stephens? emoTongue

Kiffin addressed that too . He said when Pete Carrol hired him at USC a guy by the name of Carson Palmer was there and USC had just gone 5 and 6 the previous year and everyone was saying how they didn't have a qb, they Palmer was a head case and his footwork was terrible. HMMM..what happend to Carson Palmer? Heisman, National Champion. Now I am not saying there is that up in Knoxville, but I do think there is some unfound talant up there and I do believe he will get the best out of them. Is that best enough? Again...we'll see.

There's always been plenty of tallant at UT, Look how many vols make it to the NFL. I agree with Pat Dye, its what you do when they are there.

I'm orange through and through. It's good that Kiffen has brought new energy to the Vol Nation. I hope he will learn from his debacle at the supporters luncheon.

I just finished reading Bill Curry's new book "Ten men you meet in the huddle". One of his chapters was devoted to John Unitas. His example of leadership was "Talk's cheap, Let's play!!"

Why are Alabama and Georgia fans so worried about a team coming off of a 5-7 season?

Rob... Lane was not responsible for Reggie Bush's recruitment. He was recruited in 2002, and Lane was not appointed Recruit Coord til 2005. He was responsible for out of state recruits, of which Reggie Bush was not. That point is invalid and should be thrown out.

I am not sure where Alabama fans have any business picking apart a Tennessee coach. Nick Saban albeit a great coach hashis own issues. Nick Saban compared this LA-Monroe loss to 9/11. What a comparison. Wow, classy coach. Also maybe Mal Moore should look at Nick's drug enforcement policy. An Alabama player can be caught/tested positive for drugs (any drug) 4 times before disciplined (DJ Hall suspended for whole game against LA-Monroe, oh wait, Nick didn't follow through). Look on the inside your own house before you get your britches in a wad about a *** from another SEC coach. (Source: My brother who spent 2 years on Bama Training Staff)

Someone here talked about Lane's record in the NFL as well... I forgot that Saban cleaned house while he was there too.

I've just read this post, so I'm late to the party.

We'll have to wait and see I guess Spoon.

Saban's Recruiting Classes with Lance Thompson as Recruiting Coordinator

2002 - #15

2003 - #1

2004 - #1

2007 - #10

2008 - #1

2009 - #1 (several recruits inked with LTs help before departure, this could be thrown out of course)

I'm not trying to be argumentative, just pointing out the classes that LT was responsible for.

If I am not mistaken L. T. was the recruiting coordinator for Saban in 2002-2003 only , and also served as recruiting coordinator @ Georgia Tech , 1995-1998 and 2001.

L.T. is a very good recruiter, but Nick Saban is an easy sell. U.T. will be an easy sale, as for Kiffen being an easy sale I don't know.

In my opinion coach O is twice the recruiter L.T. is.

It is one thing for L.T. to say it's our goal to build a fence around Memphis, and another to say we are going to build a fence.
Not only will Rich take this personal but so will Saban, Myer, spurrier, etc.

I love every part of college football, and seeing coaches write checks that they can't cash makes it that much more entertaining.

Your right spoon, so take away the 2004. Still impressive. I'll agree with you on Coach O. It will be interesting to see how UTs class pans out next year. We'll have 32-35 scholarships available, and they are going to try and fill everyone. Should be some interestesting border wars.

I realize that LT probably had said some things he can't 100 % deliver on. But lets look at the context. He was in Memphis at a UT Alum gathering. He should of been more careful if he knew he was on record, but its folks like Finebaum who just take something like this and give it more legs than it deserves.

Any which way I am looking forward to 2009.
