Picked Mike up at his dock about 2:00 and we headed out for a little evening bass fishing. First stop nothing happening. The wind was blowing into the shallow bay and the bait was not up, no fish. Went downriver to check another spot and found a boat sitting there emoBang. Not many secrets on Chick, lol. Decided to head up river and try some of the sloughs. First stop we are in a ton of baitfish and bass are busting all around. We probably made 50 casts before we got the first hit. I was trying flukes today and Mike was mostly trying a Sammy. We picked up a few nice fish there and when it slowed we decided to try a couple more spots. Probably should have been more patient and stayed on the fish there.
Next stop more bait and a few fish working them over. Mike picked up a couple on a Sammy that were a little smaller, but still keepers. I was net man. Headed back downriver and next stop had 3 boats working the area, so I told Mike we will stay out here at the mouth of the bay and catch some big ones. Next thing I know huge splash and Mike has a really good fish on. First jump and the fish looks to be in the 5-6# range. He had the rod down to discourage any more jumps, but the fish got up one more time and threw the Sammy right back at me. Tough to loose a good fish like that.
Mike had some consolation as he was down at Riverpark in the AM and caught an 8.25# Hybrid Striper and a 7# Striper even though there was very little current. Don't know how I got left out of that trip. I think we ended with 6 keepers and a couple of shorts. Mike gets no pics because he lost the big fish. Self portrait on last shot as Mike was on the phone??
