I actually caught one in the mouth one day on Nickajack. It was about 2.5ft long. It was not attached to a fish at all.

I think I would cut my line on one that big.

I have been fishing for years and pretty hard and alot of different lakes.. so it REALLY caught me off guard when the lamprey turned up!! i always thought it was a N. East fish round Great Lakes! and the habitat was for it was wrong here. i mean ive seen one on Jeremy Wade's show but NEVER NEVER this close to home!!!! are they bottom feeders?? back creek/tributary feeders? or are they at any depth and any temperature??? just looking for info!!!
thanks again!!!

They are great fried! Me and a buddy fried a few up last summer put ketchup and salt on them. They will latch to you if you stay in the water long enough. Ever been swimming and feel the lil nibbles on your legs? It's not bream.

I pulled one off a fish one day and put it on a hook with a bobber and watched it swim around the dock for hours. Nothing ever did eat it. That was on the Hiwassee.

I googled tennessee river animals the other night. We have fresh water jellies! Also a colony creature similar to coral called a moss animal.
You just never know what's swimming under your boat.
