double uni is a great knot but I use the Alberto because I can tie it better in the wind. When tying the Alberto, your weak/less dominant hand never lets go of the line, so you don't have tag ends to locate. Will not trash the double uni, I've used it and it worked great. I'm a knot head but down to 3. Palomar and Alberto are easy knots to tie in strong wind but the blood knot still causes me to cuss when it's whitecapping

So you use the Alberto to join the braid and the fluorocarbon and then Palomar for the fluorocarbon to the lure?

Yes, AT. I'm 57 and my hands don't work as good as they use to, need glasses too but both are very easy to tie and I have complete confidence in them. I mention windy days because if you're go to knot(s) are hard to impossible to tie under less than ideal conditions, it can ruin your attitude thru sheer frustration. I keep a dozen or so rods on deck and all are tied with those 2 knots. I use lighter gear and a reel set vs. winching and trying to rip their heads off. Sometimes failure is do to mismatched techniques or equipment...my opinion

I also use the double uni to connect the lines and palomar to tie the lure. I've tried Alberto knot but for me it takes too long to tie. I'm sure if I practice I can get better, it is a smaller knot and goes through casting guides better, but with spinning guides I've never had a problem with the double uni and that's why I stick with it

Braid

I believe your 99% right. I did the braid only for years believing if I could barely see it, the fish were the same way. I have no way of knowing how much a flouro leader helped, for sure, much less proving it but it seemed to instantly up my game. Braid is the best all around line, in my opinion and spinning reels love it but I strongly encourage you to at least try using a leader. The Chick is a high pressured lake and it's the little things that can make a difference. I understand yours and everyone else's reluctance to change something that works and a leader just looks like trouble but the saltwater boys have been doing it almost forever and look at the stress they put on those scary looking knots. I'll start the next round by recommending Seaguar Abrazx for your leader choice. It is the absolute worst F/C line you could spool up but is the most durable leader I've used. The joining knot is generally between reel and first eye. That's the rule of thumb but whatever works best for your style is the way to go. Supple (soft) F/C is the best for spooling bit it struggles holding up after making contact with solid objects, like rocks and wood. I'm patiently waiting on braided F/C

I've been playing with the blood knot and the alberto knot and the blood knot is smaller but the alberto knots easier to tie.......

S/S, I mentioned the blood knot but I only use it for 2 similar lines of equal or almost equal diameter. The double uni and alberto are the 2 best knots but very happy you think the alberto is easy. Did you use your tongue to help out? Also wets line and F/C is very sensitive to a tying dry

now I didn't mean it was easy but it was easier than the blood knot .... and I haven't tried the double uni knot yet.......
