I know many of you use braid on the Big G but I'm really getting sick of that stuff. Seems it just dosent jive well for me. I do like it when flipping though. May keep it just for that.

Anyone still throwing Mono line down there and what brand? Size? MonoFil anyone?

The good ole purple box, 10 and 12 lb test.

I've tried many others including the fluro stuff and just can't get use to any other.

I'm still old school! I will throw braid when flipping the mats. This time of year I hardly ever use anything over ten lb test but I try to re-tie often.

Thats what I've been wanting to see. I've never tried Excel there but love that line! Thanks Brandon..I think I'll spool up some 14 and some BG 15.

Excel is the way to go. For the $ you cant beat it and regardless I still think it performs better than most higher $ brands.

15Lb Big Game with cranks & traps, I realy like the streach it has. On babby1- I'll throw them on 8Lb. spider wire mono. You can realy throw them well in the wind & it broght in an 8.2 last year so I guess it's strong enough. You can get it at Wally world for about $5.99 for a box of 250 yrds.

Really? Wow. I would have thought Trilene XL or one of the flouro's would have ranked higher. I do like the diameter of the Power pro, but lately I've had three lures SNAP in mid cast when it cinches down on a loop deep in the spool. NEVER have I had Spider wire do that. Right now, I'm using Trilene XL on spinning, and some power pro 6lb diameter/20 test on other spinning reels and the same power pro on my baitcasting shimano's. I'm going to switch back to Spiderwire fusion though. It doesn't break and casts fine. Just can't get anywhere with FLouro and wind up watching the spool all day to make sure it's not unfolding at my feet.... But it sure is some strong, slick (reduced nicks) stuff.

Spencer, I've had Stren and Power Pro break like that...Not to mention, every 5th cast or so, I need to re-spool it in fresh. When that stuff knots..it can and WILL break.

I'm going with Excel and Big Game...Stren Braid on my spinning reel works great, I'll leave that on.

I once had a poorly tied Uni slip out on PowerPro, but I've never just had it "break." You can do property damage with that stuff ... I've literally had to wrap it around boat cleats to break it off. It remains the line of choice on my pitchin' rods, but everything else but my spinning rods are spooled with either 10, 12, or 15lb Big Game. I actually heard that Berkley was going to offer it in 8lb test for '08, but I've yet to see it.

bbass,if the excel line dont work out,try sufix elite.i have tried both and perfer the sufix although the excel is good line.i also like the xps fluorocarbon, tough line and doesnt have much stretch.

That's funny you say that Danny... I don't recall ever seeing you working on a rat's nest since I've known you. You love the flouro where I am so turned on that stuff after my spinning reels "ate" up a couple of spools. But I've heard that was just the Vanish. I don't see how they still sell that stuff. It won't stay on a reel at all. Who makes Excel?

I'm with Blazer, XPS floro, you can feel a fish swipe at a crankbait with it and it's fairly tough. It's best on a baitcaster. It's fine on a spinning real if you don't put too much on there, you then get that peeling effect. One note, ice in the rod guides did nick it up one time for me.

I have a few issues with Braid, but I have never had it break like yall are talking about. One of the issues I have had is that it WONT break. I now have braid on ALL my rods. When you get a nest in a baitcaster, its a pain but the benifits outweigh the negatives IMO.

I like Braid for my topwater rig. It is more of a hook setting factor though. Also, Old Crachetty will have braid on it, due to the fact that the reel is likely to fall apart and I just don't trust the drag system on 'er, But she has caught me many a bass and I can't let her go.

However, my new darlin will be loaded with 12 lbs Mono, Stren.
