I am looking for recommendations for a boat mechanic. One that won't take forever or cause my to have to break my piggy bank either . I have a 50hp Evinrude 87 model for some reason it has the old prestolite trim on it I need it worked up and possibly another shifter because mine is broken where the up/down switch is I have one of the switches like goes on a steering wheel so either one would be fine as long as it works . And also need the bilge, aerator and light switches to make sure they work . I'll be putting a 24 volt trolling motor on it and it will cover the bow light so I have some led lights that will go under it .I'm disabled and only have 1 leg so fishing is my passion and also is peaceful to me . So please pm me with any recommendations. Phone numbers etc the rest as far as buffing out and all that I can do myself just would like to have the whole boat ready by February but can't afford a arm and leg which I've only got 1 lol Thank you .

I know somebody has a mechanic they would recommend. I've been on this forum for 23 years and have gave advice fishing reports and bought things from people I just had to change my profile name because I forgot my password when they redid the forum and now can't get a single recommendation
I'm sorry but it feels like nobody wants to help anybody they think.is new and that's what this forum is supposed to be about each other giving advice and helping each other.

I hear you! The forum is supposed to be about local fishermen helping local fishermen. I will say that part of the lack of response to your request may relate to the age of your engine and the fact that Evinrude sadly has been no more for a while. I understand parts and the knowledge to work on the old engines is getting harder and harder to come by. I hope someone posts soon with a recommendation for you. I've thought about it and this one is a tough one. Most if not all of the dealer service departments are busy and / or just don't want to mess with this which is a shame and they do charge 2 arms and 3 legs. Shop rates in this day of inflation and high prices are pretty steep. Those older engines were often bullet proof if not thirsty. My brother had a early 80's 70 hp Rude that you couldn't kill. It just ran and ran and then ran some more. I hope you get a contact name soon.
