Looking into buying a kayak

The green Lifetime from Wal-Mart seems to get good reviews. So far it's looking like it might be for me.

I owned 3 Lifetime Manta takes. Heavy, strong, stable..
just what I needed at the time.

Got my kayak last night. Lifetime Tahoma 100. It has good reviews and should suit me as my first kayak. Its my birthday present! I'm rigging it today and hope to head up to Soddy tomorrow. If you see me out say hi and be forgiving of my beginner skills.
Now my gf wants one!
Thanks, Stan.

Check list....don't leave home without....

Paddle leash (any long piece of cord that has a loop on one end and is fastened to you or the yak on the other.) If you drop your paddle, you may be "Up S#$%$creek without a paddle"

Life Jacket ( you know that)

When dismounting for the first time, you will find it easier to get off in one/two feet of water, rather than nearly on the sandy shore.

A long piece of rope tied onto the bow to hold the yak while you stumble around getting on or off.

Have fun! richg99

Already rigged leashes. Going for my pfd vest today. Going to study how to make an anchor trolley. Thanks !

Paddle leash …..

Paddle leash are a big no no on moving water. The leash becomes an entanglement issue. Your paddle will float right beside you. Been doing this kayak thing for over 25 years, I have yet to see anyone lose a paddle.

Say what you will about Lifetime kayaks, but I enjoyed myself today. My Tahoma 100 tracks well, rides high(@185 lbs with me and my gear), and handled today's wind and boatwakes very well.
I had a very good time 1st time out even though I couldn't buy a bite.
See you on the water again soon!

Yep. Did you see me fall in trying to get in the kayak? My shoe got stuck in the mud. I had fun though. Lol

Catch anything? I had to keep an eye out on some jet skis flying thru there. No troubles. Did have a guy in a pleasure boat come within 10 ft of a couple of girls on paddleboards. He was going slow but still too close.

Old guy with some experience...

Getting in or out of a kayak is often easier in a foot or two of water. In inches of water, the angles are such that you will fall in or over unless you can straddle the yak.

If your foot gets stuck in the mud....be happy that you have laces or tight shoes.

Don't ask me how I know this, but.... there is a pair of Crocs residing in one pile of mud in Tennessee. Crocs are NOT the best choice for muddy water kayaking. Ha Ha richg99

I was in a couple feet of water. I had on beach shoes. The auction of the mud had me. Won't do that again if I can help it. But I laughed. I'm a sport.

My buddy and I caught a few. Nothing to brag about. Yeah I saw all that. I hate that crap. I've never seen it that crowded in that little area, crazy. I'll probably see ya around from time to time haha.
