I nominate LM, SM, spot, and Striper for the TN river Grand Slam. The Striper makes the deal because you have to change tactics or just be flat lucky to get one.

I agree with you on the slam MB. I have caught LM over 10, SM over 5, never caught a really big spot, but nothing that I have ever hooked and landed can even compare with the first minute of the fight from a 30-40 pound Striper. I have landed 30 pound flathead, blues approaching 40 pounds, Drum in the 20's, and they pale in comparison to the speed and raw power of a big Striper. Those fish just never give up even when they are whipped and at the boat. They sling their heads from side to side and won't hardly open their mouths when you are trying to get the hook out. Beats all I have ever seen or experienced. I just absolutely love it. Can't wait til the fall run begins.emoAngel emoGeezer

To heck with the picture of the gar, let's see Richard bleeding..... sorry, Richard that was just a thought.... I know how mean the big gars can be... had one get loose in the boat and thought we were going to need help getting him out of the boat.... tore up lots of stuff flopping around....

When I was a teenaged guide at Watts Bar Resort, we sometimes fished for Gar below the dam by trolling nylon rope lures. We always had leather gloves and a 12-18" piece of galvanized pipe about 3/4" in dia. We would grab the gar and hold it's head over the gunwale. You can imagine what the pipe was for. You do not want to bring a large gar into the boat. It not only can hurt you but also toss all your equipment into the river. We used to catch them up to 35-40 lbs!

Right now is prime time for this type of fishing!
