Nice story DJ. I used to love hunting w/ my grandpa also. I can remember going to our lease in laurens county, ga. We had an old shed that we used to cook out of and campers surrounding it. We used to go down just me and him sometimes. I remember some of things he used to do, like when I was scouting he would say,(Jokingly) know find me a place to hang my stand know. When he got ready for you to come down out of your stand. He would come close to where you hunting and blow his horn.Did not matter if it was 9:30am. You might as well come down . Or every 3min. beep beep beep beep beep. Fixed that problem just didn't hunt where he could get his truck close to.emoAngel WE spent lots of weekends on that club toghether.

Here is another story I remember. It was in Alabama . I hunted a couple of days before but did not produce. Even though I did shoot at one about 55yds w a bow . So I decided to move my stand . Climbed up this ridge and found a pretty good trail. So know a tree , found it it was a tree right on the trail, w plenty of cover . So set up and hunted that evening. To the left of me I see something brown. It was moving down the trail . At that time I could tell it was a deer so I grabbed my bow. IT got closer and closer but I could not get on it. So by know my heart is beating out of my chest. I cant hear anything but my heart beating , sounds like somone beating on my chest w a drum. I had to let the deer go behind me to my right so I could turn around and get a shot. So I slowly turned around . And waiting for it to step in the opening . I wait wait wait what seems like for ever . IF it would just step in that opening I will have about a 15 yd. shot. Where did it go finally I see it's head . IT steps out and I pull back and thud I here it hit the deer. I watch the deer it runs about 40yds and falls over . Yesssssssss. I smoked it.
I don't remember how I got down but I think I jumped down...

I walked up to the deer it was a spike it had about 2inch spikes . This was my 1st deer, and w a bow . I tried to drag it but even with my adrenaline rush I didn't get that far. I went and got help and came back to camp. My grandpa was so proud of me. He gave my uncle dad a hard time. saying I was a better hunter than all of them. And maybe I should show them how to hunt. I will never forget it . My grandpa is not here with us today . But I know everytime I go hunting and kill a deer he is looking down at me saying . Thats my buddy way to go.

the hunting and fishing dads, moms, granddads, and grandmas are always looking down on us when we are out afield. My paternal grandpa doesn't hunt, we're not real sure how my dad got started, but thank goodness he did and taught me. my maternal gran-D was a bird hunter, but he passed away when i was about 5.

but Gran-D had a marlin model 94 .22lr. a long lever action .22. I have it now and it is one of my favorite guns. he also had an old lever action BB gun. I only remember shooting it with him a couple times, but he took me to his farm pond to shoot turtles one afternoon. i remember being too small to work the lever on the BB gun, so he'd do it then hand it to me. i remember him leaning the gun on top of the barb wire fence to steady his aim, and me standing at his knees doing the same a couple feet below. i had to be 3 or 4 so its only a brief memory, but its there, and one i'll never forget.

every time i bring out that old .22 i know he's helping me aim just a little straighter

Well, I have a great story that needs to be told but I need to do it in person.....cannot do it justice putting it down on paper....but it concerns the day while hunting with my dad in the snow and he made me act like a beagle to bring a rabbit back to him.....funny? yes... and I was 11 years old when this happened....so, next time you see me ask about it....FA
