My mom wanted a mess of crappie for the freeze so I asked the crappie expert to show us around. We hit the Chick about 7:15 and fished until 12:30. Ended up boated 19 keeper crappie, 8 short, 4 spots, and 2 bluegill. Day seemed slow until I started cleaning fish and they just kept coming out of the bucket. After cleaning I can say we had about a 50/50 split between male and females (the females were full of tiny eggs which I assume are for next year). With yesterday's fish my mom took home 23 crappie and she took my great aunt 14 spots and a big bull bluegill. They will be eating fish a while.

Water temp was 69 degrees and we caught fish on spawning flats (very few and far between) and post spawn docks using Ringer Stinger type baits in various colors. The dock bite was more up in the day as early this morning we got nothing.

Thanks for the guide trip DK, I owe you lunch. DK has a pic to post later.

and we all know a slow day is not because of a lack of fish knowledge. I would have caught 1 I bet, nice to catch like 40 fish and it be slow though

Michael, thanks for asking me along this AM. I really enjoyed my day with you and your mom. I just wish that it had been last week. We could have given you more crappie than you care to clean. But, it is what it is. Crappie are in reverse transition. Going from spawning banks to their summer haunts. In another month, they will become very predictable.

We did catch some really nice crappie. We measured two that were 13.5 inches long. Another about 13 and several 11 to 12 inch fish. I think that we might have sneaked in a couple that were just under 11". For mom, that's just fine. emoBigsmile
