So I have been looking for a new boat the past few weeks since my lower unit went out on my Yamaha. I figured for the price of fixing it I could definitely upgradeif I only could make my wife understand. I had some interesting experiences to say the least during my search! I ended up finding a 1988 Bass Tracker 18fter powered by a Mercury 150 black max xr4. Test drove it and it ran excellent. I do have a couple issues that I have run into with it. The first issue I ran into was when me and my father in law went to the lake today, I went to trim the motor up to un hook it and the trim would not stop going up. We could push it down and it would go down but, once we let go it would start going up again and it happens fast. We finally disconnected all the negative wires on the battery and it quit. It happened on both trim switches andwe even unhooked the one in the back and it did nothing. My guess would be that the solenoid might be stuck and needs to be replaced. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated! I am super excited to get back on the water! I guess it kinda worked out the best for me b/c my top speed just went from 37 to 60. I can't wait to start hitting some of these TX's. Here are some photos of my boat</p>

Thanks man. Once you got that ranger I just had to get me a new boat lol! I looked at similar rangers like yours bud and almost bought one but it was priced to good and sold in 1 day. If I can get this trim issue figured out I'll be good to go

It maybe something as simple as the trim switch on the actual motor having a short in it . I have the same motor and have had to disconnect the switch on the motor . Haven't had an issue since .

Okay I figured it out. The trim switch was jammed on the bow of the boat so I took it apart and put it back together and it works like a charm!

If the trim switch got moisture in it that could be it, or the relay. But I would think its the switch.

Never mind, I just read your last post. I will go back in my corner now.

Same thing happened to me, $7 fix and back in action.
