I know the democrats are out numbered on this site about 9 to 1, I can't help that but one thing I know for sure is that Obama is our president at the moment and he will be untill the next election which is around 3 years and 3 months away.He may be elected again or he may be removed but he will be around for quite awhile. He is trying to help the people of the United States. You can call him every name in the book, cuss him, make fun of him but he is still our president. he needs our help now to get our country back on track, he is trying to get health care for everyone, not just democrats. If you can't help him, quit trying to hurt and discredit him. If you can help him, do so in any way you can. This bitching and griping, and name calling is getting this forum and the people of the USA nowhere. We all need to do our part and pitch in and help. When the next election comes around, vote as you please but vote for whoever that may be running for the office. For right now we all need to stop this nonsence, all it is doing is making friends part. We all try to help our fishing friends, we can also help our leaders if we try. These are my thoughts and mine only, take it any way you want to, it is a free country.

Doc1 I am a republican leaner but I still like you. Your views and other views is what makes this country the best game going. I commend you for your post. Makes sense if you just stop and think about it.

So Doc what you are saying is that we should give in and support the president no matter what he wants to do in the name of getting along. Well sorry but I refuse to support someone whose goal is for the government to take over control of every segment of the American society. He has already taken over a huge chunk of the auto and the banking industry. He wants to take control of the healthcare industry. He will not stop until we the American people stop him.

If the president comes up with a plan for anything that does not involve government takeover then I will support him. Until such time I will fight by every legal means to stop him and his cronies from accomplishing their agenda. That to me is what this thing is all about. They have no intention of helping anyone but themselves by gaining more power and dependance on government.

I would rather not have to fight. It takes up a lot of my time that I could spend doing any number of other things. Maybe because of my convictions it is possible that some people that are friends will distance themselves from me. The way I see it is that if those people who call me their friend choose to end the friendship because of my political views then they were really not too much of a friend to begin with. I will never end a friendship because someone has a different point of view about something. If friendship comes with a price then I do not want it.

That being said I will not sit idly by and watch my country be destroyed nor will I give in and get along for the sake of getting along. There is too much at stake.

If others want to get along and remain silent well I can do nothing about that. They are the ones who will have to face themselves in the mirror when we wake up and see the United States as we know it along with the freedom we hold dear is gone. They are the ones who will wish they had done something when they had the chance.

These are my thoughts and the thoughts of a sleeping giant who is waking up.

Good question Jon. I for one know that all the folks over at CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, & CNN certainly supported what he was trying to do even though they disagreed with him. emoPoke YEAH RIGHT!

CBS = Communist Broadcasting Station
ABC = America's Best Communists
NBC = National Bureau Communists
MSNBC = Mostly Socialist Nationals Broadcasting Communism
CNN = Communist News Network

Take your pick. They are all cut from the same cloth.

Good words Doc. As for giving a new President a chance, I have done that. When W was elected I took a wait and see attitiude toward him even though I did not vote for him and have not voted for a Republican Presidential candidate since 1980. In his first 7 months he really did not take on anything big. Then 911 happened. I supported him in his lead-up to the war until I began to realize that his justification and motivation for sending our young men and women to spill thier blood was something other than what we were being told. Even then I did not actively bash him at every opportunuty. Those who did loudly and forcefully object to his "War for Oil" were deemed Un-patriotic, bad Americans that did not love our country. I waited until election time to say or post much of anything. I have no problem at with anyone dis-agreeing with the President and saying so. The real problem that I have are with 1 issue individuals that base anything and everthing along the lines of that single issue. Those types of people (on either side) are close minded and everthing they say should be taken with a "grain of salt" in my view. I also understand that this is supposed to be a forum, with our love of fishing and the outdoors as its core. Because I am a Democrat and a Liberal (for these parts), My views on Religion and Politics have cost me in various ways over the years. I have had an Obama sticker ripped off my car at a Church were my daughter was asked to sing. I have had my my son left off baseball allstar teams and not invited to birthday parties because of a John Kerry sign in my yard. Most recently at a kids fishing event/tx sponsored by this forum, when the Obama sicker was noticed on my van, I, nor my boys were spoken too or congratulated after winning the event. My oldest boy commented on the way home that should have drove the other vehicle to the weight in. I really enjoy this forum and agree with Doc that things can get out of hand and we forget why we are all here. I won't stop posting on the Politics/Reigion Forum but will try to keep the posts and comments on a higher level.

Maybe you could tell us which is worse, voting your conscience or voting for someone just because they have a (D) behind their name?

Sooner or later you need to pick a side

Nice diversion, but not an answer. I've always thought anyone voting a single ticket to be either too lazy to do any research (i.e. being spoonfed the party line and buying it) or intellectually dishonest. There is no possible way one party can support all the stances one can take on every issue. I actually liked Obama at the beginning of the primaries. As he moved through, and after a little research, I found him to be nothing but all talk and too willing to break a promise if it was politically expedient to do so. After that, there was no way I could vote for him. Our choices in this last election were between "uber lib" and "lib lite." I didn't vote for either and wrote in the candidate of my choice

Call me crazy, but shouldn't people vote on the promises that certain politicians "say" they will make concerning certain issues that our country faces. "Republican" and "Democrat" at different points in our nations history have meant different things depending on what era you are talking about. When the Republican party was formed their first nominee for president was a man by the last name of Lincoln. His name did not even appear on a ballot in the state of Georgia in 1860, but now the state of Georgia traditionally votes Republican. If you look closely this standard is changing once again. You could call the two parties "purple" and "pink" for all it matters and it should not matter. Those labels were intended to get votes by the people that created them. A vast majority of Americans are uneducated on the issues that face the country and so the political party makes it easier for a big majority to decide whom to vote for without doing any research on the issues that particular politicians promote. I am not publicly promoting anyone, but during and after the Great Depression Roosevelt took control of many different aspects of Americans lives and it worked, nobody can argue that or we may not be sitting here having this discussion today. Government control scares me just as much as the next person, but sometimes it is necessary. I do not know as much as I should but, in a way I support some of the bailouts. If they had not been done imagine what the unemployment rate due to the auto industry alone would have done to the economy alone. If you lose your job you have no money, you spend no money, store makes no money, store owner spends no money, etc. It is a snowball effect. Just my 2 cents. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN! emoUSA

I realize we all support the candidates that we feel best represent our views on the issues. While I vehemently disagree with the liberal agenda I realize those of you who support it do so because you believe in it just as I believe in smaller government, lower taxes, Anti-abortion, and less restrictive gun control. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine and that my friends is the best part of being an American. We can agree to disagree and share a boat anytime.

I do have one question though. What does a perfect society look like from a liberal perspective?

Good luck getting an answer to your question Craig. I have asked repeatedly when are the liberals going to be happy and have never gotten an answer. emoConfused

I agree with you to a point. Both Parties do more to separate the country than they do to bring it together. they both seem more intent on what's good for the party than what's good for the country.

Where I disagree is, I believe President Roosevelt's policies were more of a band aid rather than a fix of the economy. What really worked towards getting the US out of the depression, was WWII. There's plenty of arguments about whether or not he intentionally got us into WWII, but that's a topic for another thread.

Doc, I feel the only way to help the country is to tell the truth and to question Obama's big gov't socialist agenda. The good of the country should come before any politician Republican or Democrat. I believe Obama's ultimate goal is to coax our public in to thinking that they are recieving something for free, this in turn will buy votes in order to keep himself and his party in power. Big gov't socialism is the biggest sham going because it does not reward individuals for hard work. This creates an unmotivated public that looks to gov't for all the answers (do you remember what happened during Hurricane Katrina). This type of big gov't intrusion hinders any type of entreprenurship or new inventions whether they be medical, industrial, etc... It is just so crystal clear to me that I can hardly believe that any one person with the slightest bit of common sense can't grasp the true nature of socialism. The proof is there look to history! Socialism has never worked. Have some faith in the free market it works it has created the Jewel of the world and that is the United States of America and this freedom is something that I would fight and die for.

Doc, I respect your thoughts. What concerns me the most is the deficit spending. With more spending comes increased financing of the national debt. So the Fed pays more and more interest on the debt instead of having money for material goods and services. The only people getting better off in this scenario are the bankers and lawyers.
Our kids and grandkids will be saddled with this bill and interest rates will eventually be higher if not only for the Fed being in more and more competition for limited available borrowing. I can’t think of anything much more tragic than us spending now and making the next generation pay down, not off our lack fiscal responsibility at the Fed level.

I never mentioned names, you did. We both know what the truth is and what went on there, despite your big red letters attempting to save face. And yes, there were a couple of those people you mentioned that stopped and looked at the "Obama: sticker and said a few whispers to each other. Even though the boys had a pretty good sack of fish, I cautioned them that even thought we had done pretty well, someone else may have done better, and we would congratulate the winners no matter the outcome. And you're right, the money was handed out, a picture was taken, and results posted. But not one of those adults (Or You), came over to those boys or me and even said so much as "nice job". Pretty poor sportsmanship from adults at a Kids event. I was able to turn that experience into a "teaching moment" for the boys. In the above post, I was making the point that sometimes ones political/religious views can cause some to treat other differently or not associate with them at all. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. So don't lecture me! Take a look at yourself!
