Sorry it's taken me so long to post this. It's been a LONG weekend.
Another tough day on the lake for most anglers as the cold water temperature was still pretty low. That wasn't helped by the fact that 5 or 6 tournaments on the lake out of the Marion County area made it look like the Spanish Armada was on the river.
Cold water didn't slow Gene Cantrell down as he won his second tournament with 4 fish totalling 12.98 pounds. He also had the big fish with a 5.43. Visitor Jerry Hankcock was second with one fish for 2.76. Josh Watts would have been second had it not been for boat trouble. He had five for 7.23 but was 10 minutes late to the ramp. The penality wiped out his catch.
It was also hard on the juniors as only one turned in fish. Visitor Chad Cordell had 3 fish for 9.45. His big fish was 3.52. Chad fished with his dad Shawn and we think they're going join up. Hunter Layne got the second place money via a draw.
Our next tournament is on Tims on March 27 out of Devils Step and it is an open tourney.
Then it will be back to Nickajack for some of us to fish the Castle's Open on April 3. Jody is one of our best sponsors for the juniors and Hank and I had a blast fishing that one last year. We're going to go see if we can get another 14-15 pounds of spots and then cull them with some bigger ones.
Also nice talking to CFF member "Doghouse" on the lake. He was having about as much luck as Hank and I did when we passed. I asked to borrow some dynamite but he said he needed his for a last ditch effort for fish. Hope it worked. emoToast
David.
