Well, we have are new head coach... Personally, I don't have warm fuzzy feeling about this hire.... This coach came out of the WAC Louisiana Tech, who has had subpar record in his tender there..... Derick does not stand out as the next big head coach that will take Tennessee to the promise land.... Listen to this guys he had 17-20 record at Louisiana Tech, these are not stats that stick out any where... WAC is not very strong conference compared to many others.... Do you think this guy is going to come into the SEC which is the best conference in College Football and start beating teams like Florida, Alabama or Auburn... I truly believe we are taking big risk hiring this guy as our next head football coach... They interviewed many candidates this week, that I thought would make nice fit for UT football, but picked one that I personally never even thought about....

Give him a Chance and you may be surprised. Look at what he was playing at LT

RE: NEW HEAD COACH FOR UNIVERSITY TENNESSEE DERICK DOOLEY

The WAC and had below 500 record... How many years can you have below 500 season at UT, not very long....

Re: NEW HEAD COACH FOR UNIVERSITY TENNESSEE DERICK DOOLEY

I bet he will do fine. They have a poor record because they played a bunch of big name teams to pay for their program.

Re: NEW HEAD COACH FOR UNIVERSITY TENNESSEE DERICK DOOLEY

12-12 in the WAC doesn't qualify for big time games... I personally can't think of one big team in the WAC..... Next year if he dosen't have 500 record, I guarantee UT fans will be calling for his resignation.... Our history is too good to be going out and getting someone that might help us win....

Well as long as he doesn't bail out when things get rough then maybe he can make something happen. I'm just glad to see that the Trojans finally got the Dick they wanted, we don't need him anyways. But if this one doesn't work out we'll move to the next one and so on. emoEnforce

RT, I think what you said may be true relative to how he is in front of the media. But from a coaching and recruiting perspective, Lane was a great hire. I think Dooley is an excellent hire relative to how he is portrayed by the media and how he handles them. I think he SHOULD be a great recruiter, mainly because he worked as recruiting coordinator for Saban. Although, I don't know how active a recruiting coordinator is in actually recruiting as much as he is managing who goes where and what not and he has not proven himself to be able to get great recruits at a big school yet. Then again he has never really had the chance. From a coaching standpoint, it seems like he should be good. I mean he is obviously smart as he has a law degree. However, a losing record at LA Tech doesn't seem promising. Great coaches always seem to win wherever they are, i.e.- Nick Saban, Bruce Pearl, Urban Meyer.

Then again Gene Chizik was terrible at Iowa State and had a respectable first season at Allbarn, I mean Auburn.

Re: NEW HEAD COACH FOR UNIVERSITY TENNESSEE DERICK DOOLEY

dont know a single WAC team and you are commenting on a football coach. you just lost all cred! Ever heard of Boise State!
OK. they are mid major conference so i will cut you some slack.

Boise state finished 13-0 beat TCU in the Fiesta Bowl
Nevada 8-4 lost hawaii bowl to SMU
Fresno st 8-4 lost New mexico bowl
Idaho 7-5 won Humanitarian bowl
Hawaii
La tech
Utah state
new mexico st
san jose state

Honestly i like him about as much as i liked any of the canidates mentioned. Dooleys first big test is in two weeks, if he retains somewhat of a recruiting class he has done something major!

... need to change your pic ther fishheadspin, Kippy's gone to Seattle! You got a pic of Hamilton? I notice that each person that you use their pic, they leave fairly quickly!?

Re: NEW HEAD COACH FOR UNIVERSITY TENNESSEE DERICK DOOLEY

Boise State is the only team in the WAC worth darn, so what???? SEC has Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Auburn, Georgia and others that we have to beat every year.... If Florida played Boise State what do you think the score would of been 41-0.... You seen what Florida did to Cincinnati, flat out destroyed them..... Who will be the next head football coach????

RE: NEW HEAD COACH FOR UNIVERSITY TENNESSEE DERICK DOOLEY

On the Kiffin hire, UTK knew what they were getting. I am sure they did not have the foresight that Carroll would leave USC but they knew what type character issues Kiffin had.

On recruiting, Kiffin took alot of risks on players that other schools would not. How many of those player would have been on campus in two years?

On Dooley I believe his word is as good as gold. Dooley will be a coach parent would want there children to play for.But the odds of any young coach succeeding in big time college football is not good. This is true at Bama, OK., NB.,ND., UGA, USC, etc. Very few schools will bat over 300 when hiring coaches, it's just a risky business.

If Dooley is going to succeed it will be by defalt on UGA's part. UTK must recruit the Atlanta area very well. During UTK's better years they recruited this area very well.

This brings us to the UTK problem. If UTK does succeed ( to me that would mean 2nd place in the east UF is here to stay for the next 8 out of ten years) UGA will not. SO in two or three years UGA is looking for a coach. The AD's is a legend with the last name of DOOLEY who has a son who graduated with a law degree from UGA who just so happens to be a successful coach at a rival school.........

SO regardless of what happens UTK is looking for another new coach in three years.

Everyone says he is talker..... I guess he can give speaches and has the A+ personality that makes an great sales man to get recruits... But will he be able to win Football games.... See there are two kinds of people on this Earth (talkers and doers) which category do you think he will fall under???? At least they saved some money by going out and picking him up as the head football coach....

Below are some of Saban's stats from his first head coaching job. If you consider him a "great coach", which he is, even he didn't start out winning conference titles or NC's. Give Dooley a chance. Guy's can accomplish a lot when they're dedicated. Kiffen never was Tennessee.</p>

Besides, he can hold us over till Peyton comes home and restores us to a SuperPower ! emoBigsmile </p>

Big Ten compared to the WAC... I think the Big Ten is much stronger conference than the WAC... Remember, Michigan State is not premeir team in the Big Ten... Best talent and recruits go to Michigan, instead of Michigan state.... Ohio state, Penn state, Iowa state and Wisconsin are the elite teams in the Big Ten....

At this point Peyton is UTK's only hope.

I wasn't making a comparison of conferences. emoScratch I was refering to basspwner's comment that "Great coaches always seem to win wherever they are, i.e.- Nick Saban, Bruce Pearl, Urban Meyer."</p>

Point is, even a greatcoach has to be givena chance to show what he can do. Sometimes it takes awhile for them to get their system ironed out.</p>
