Below are some of Saban's stats from his first head coaching job. If you consider him a "great coach", which he is, even he didn't start out winning conference titles or NC's. Give Dooley a chance. Guy's can accomplish a lot when they're dedicated. Kiffen never was Tennessee.

Besides, he can hold us over till Peyton comes home and restores us to a SuperPower ! emoBigsmile

[*]1995–1997 – Beginning in 1995, Saban moderately improved MSU's fortunes, taking the Spartans to minor bowl games (all of which they lost by double-digit margins) in each of his first three seasons. From 1995 to 1997, Michigan State finished 6–5-1, 6–6, and 7–5. In comparison, MSU had finished 5–6, 6–6 and 5–6 (prior to NCAA forfeits) in 1992–1994.
[*]1998 – On November 7, 1998, the Spartans upset the #1 ranked Ohio State 28–24 at Ohio Stadium. However, even after the upset and an early-season rout of then-highly-ranked Notre Dame the Spartans finished 6–6, including three last-minute losses featuring turnovers, defensive lapses, and special-teams misplays, and failed to earn a bowl invitation.
At this point Peyton is UTK's only hope.

Pure speculation Spoon. But it's another nice try by you to spread despair and bs on the Vols.

Take a break, we're all feeling pretty good about the new coach.

I'm glad your feeling good about our new head football coach.... Everyone around here is fired up about it....

hl&s. Your Nick Saban point is not even true. You forgot to copy and paste the first part of that section on wikipedia.

Michigan State

When Saban arrived in East Lansing, Michigan prior to the 1995 season, MSU had not had a winning season since 1990, and the team was sanctioned by the NCAA for recruiting violations committed under his predecessor, his former mentor, George Perles.[11]

They had not had a winning season since 1990 not to mention he had NCAA sanctions to deal with. Oh, and that article doesn't mention that Mich. state didn't win a game the year before Saban got there... That team was terrible.

To go from constant losing records, and a season without a win to three straight bowl games is very much impressive. He has been great everywhere is has coach. Lets keep in mind great doesn't mean undefeated. It is a relative term depending on where the coach is coaching.

Aside from the NFL. But that's a completely different animal. Many great college coaches have no luck as head coaches in the NFL. (Saban, Spurrier, Petrino, Butch Davis, Mike Riley)

Dooley was hired because he coached under Saban for a few years and Will Muschamp recommended him for the job period. There is no way Dooley's head coaching accomplishments can be spun into a positive.

Dooley is a good person, a person that I would not have trouble pulling for. He has as good a chance to succeed as most anyone and that chance is very slim indeed.

Take a few minutes and look around the SEC. Be honest with yourself. Who would you trade coaches with?

I agree with you SPOON. I think he my be a good coach. But the truth is, if you want to win in the SEC you have to have a great coach that can recruit well outside of their own state.

dont know a single WAC team and you are commenting on a football coach. you just lost all cred! Ever heard of Boise State!
OK. they are mid major conference so i will cut you some slack.

Boise state finished 13-0 beat TCU in the Fiesta Bowl
Nevada 8-4 lost hawaii bowl to SMU
Fresno st 8-4 lost New mexico bowl
Idaho 7-5 won Humanitarian bowl
Hawaii
La tech
Utah state
new mexico st
san jose state

Honestly i like him about as much as i liked any of the canidates mentioned. Dooleys first big test is in two weeks, if he retains somewhat of a recruiting class he has done something major!

i noticed they leave quickly too. i am trying but i can not find a picture of spoon anywhere

Re: NEW HEAD COACH FOR UNIVERSITY TENNESSEE DERICK DOOLEY

emoUpsmile ... Ha. That's pretty harsh.

This hire reminds me of Alabama hiring Mike Shula. They were in a bind with coaches leaving too early. I believe Bama had a coach who never coached a game.

UT Head Coach job application:

1. Who's your daddy?

Shula would be good example: Alabama sure did take off after his departure.... We could look at Florida too, but if you notice most of the top Football recruits come out of Florida.... Bobby Bowden at Florida State though seemed to go down hill the past 5 years with mediocre seasons..... Hire young blood and hope that he can pull out some big wins is what the Athletic Director is probably thinking....
