News on the boat sinking in front of Sequoyah?

I saw some pics of a white hull boat with only the nose and the trolling motor out of the water Sunday.
Does anyone know who it was and if they are okay?

I think they were rescued. Some of our guys were talking about it at our weigh in. Sounded like a cruiser wake did them in. Don't know all the details though.

I heard today that they speared a cruiser wake. somebody got them to an ambulance at Harbor Lights. Tow Boat got the boat towed back to Island Cove.

Hope everyone is ok. Speaking of cruiser wakes, how do you guys handle your boat when you know you are about to get swamped by a yacht that blows by you 30 yds away and sounding like a kiss concert? Do you turn into the wake? I did that a couple of weeks ago and had about a foot of water come over the front.

Sometimes you can quarter and cross over. Sometimes slower is the only decent way. I have a lightweight aluminum boat so there's not a good way for me, that's why I said decent lol. The worst is when you hit one at night because you can't see and prepare for it.

We had 3-4 who decided they wanted to run right beside us on the river Saturday night. Brutal.

Sunday crossing the dam it looked like you could jump boat to boat and not get wet! Most were huge boats it seems.

I know it a public lake but most of these big boats have no respect for others

I went to the lake saturday after getting skunked on the river. It was down right scary. I turned back and headed for a slough. Very easy to lose a small boat if you arent careful.

While the number of people in general that lack respect for others has increased a great deal in my lifetime, I've found that respect for others diminishes even more so, as folks move up the ladder of financial success in todays world. Not all, of course, but in a high percentage of cases this is true. These boats are a prime example. They simply don't care. I've been on this river for many years. I'm 65 and lived here all of my life. Cruisers have always been on the river, but very few ran like they do now 40 or 50 years ago. The old Cris Craft cruisers were made here in Chattanooga and were very popular in the 60's and 70's. They were fairly plentiful back then and it was a much more rare occasion that you ever saw one making a wake like these AH's today.</p>

This article says that every boat owner is responsible for damage or injury caused by his wake colliding with another boat the same as if the boat collided with the other boat. Boat insurance covers this of course, so that's little deterrent to rich fat cats. They can be sued for damages and injury and prosecutors can bring criminal charges if someone is killed, say drowning for instance, due to the wakes collision with another boat due to negligent operation. Of course, identifying the offending boat would be required. Maybe we should all start taking pictures of these AH's and include them in writing the TWRA about the problem. At least if you're boat is sunk by one of them, you'd have a picture that may help identify the offending AH.</p>

I've had my boat since winter of 2009. I'd see the big cruisers regularly but they were mostly just idling up and down the river slowly. Maybe it's a younger generation buying or inheriting these boats, I don't know but it seems now they wanna see how fast they can go and they have the bow up in the air making a six foot wake?? I had my two older boys out Sunday and it didn't go well. They couldn't hardly stand and fish. They mostly just sat down because the water was so rough.

I had some younger people come past me sunday on a big wake boarding type boat. they were on plane and moving pretty good. just before they got to me they slowed down. their transom went down wake went up. I want to hope they didn't do it on purpose but I feel like they younger generation doesn't care about anyone and just likes to mess with people

I left a school of 3 & 4 pounders Sunday on a ledge because I was either going to get ran over or put a swimbait in someone. I was sitting 75 yards outside of the main channel and these morons were running by 30' from me looking at me like I was in the way.

I fish every weekend and I think I've seen twra twice and all I hear is how underfunded they are. If they would show up and write a few tickets to earn their checks that wouldn't be the case.

Also I can see how someone in front of sequoia got swamped by a yacht. You'll have 10 boats anchored across the channel fishing for cats leaving no room to run

It was in up from the intake where the power lines go across towards Ware Branch not where all the catfishing takes place

I was just outside the channel a week ago, there was ONE other boat up there. He was in the channel about 60 yards from me, and we were both casting into white bass. a 25-30' cabin boat came by FOW and split us, snagging my line in his prop. He never even glanced my way, I hope it ruined his seals.

Just have your phones at the ready and turn on the vid as they come by. That way you are recording if any damage happens and you get their boat id. Im gonna start doing that.
