It started here in TN this weekend and I was wondering if anyone let an arrow fly? Any stories to tell or pictures to show? emoScratch

We camped all weekend. Finally had a doe come in Sunday morning. Took my 9 year old with his x bow. Think his nerves got the best of him. He shot and centered a small tree that was in front of deer. deer was only 15 yards away. It was still a great weekend. Had alot of fun with him. He will be back at it again. I never even got my bow out of case, and yet still thought it was one of the best times in the woods during bow season I have had. Maybe next time ,he will bust 1.

Good memories in the making right there. I had a blast with my son at that age. He does not go much at all anymore but he will still talks about those hunts. They will stay with our kids all their lives. emoThumbsup Jmax

Moon is messed up rite now. Not seeing anything in the a.m. and movement is rite at dark. next week will be better

Yes, the evenings are prime. I missed a doe Saturday evening. Arrow clipped some leaves about half way there and stuck in a tree next to the deer. Finally went to retrieve my arrow, and there she was about 35 yards uphill of me. Took another shot and did not account for the change in elevation and shot under her. I saw 2 does and 4 turkeys Saturday morning, saw 9 does and little ones Saturday evening and a whole flock of turkeys. Sunday morning I didnt see anything but a bunch of squirrels and chipmunks. Saturday evening I hiked down to the backside of the mountain rather than climbing back up to the cabin. My buddy picked me up and as we drove out the bottom fields we counted 10 deer in the fields including 2 real nice bucks. There were less than a half dozen deer checked in at the local checking station up there, which is slow for that area.

Last week when I went up there, I couldnt find any acorns dropping, this week was a different story. I was surprised to see my chinkapins are begining to drop as well as chestnut oaks and a few red oaks. Seems like the trees at my place are holding their nuts longer than they usually do....LOL! We also finished planting the ground we had turned two weeks ago. I put down a combination of Wheat, oats, austrian winter peas, forage rape and turnips. I was excited this morning when I looked on the radar and saw that a nice batch of showers had hit the area today!

Although, we didnt get anything, we had a blast and the weather was absolutely perfect. We didnt have to run the heat or the air at the cabin, and we saw a lot of deer.

I've been the last 3 weekends (GA). Been seeing deer everytime I go. Saw 2 bucks fighting last weekend and one was a real nice shooter buck, but never got within range. So this weekend I move about 60 yards and Dad wants to sit in the tree I've been in for the last couple of weeks. Sure, no prob, then pops sticks a doe Sunday morning. It runs 10 yards slap into a tree and falls over dead. Good morning, but no big buck sighting.

Only hunted one afternoon... on a new lease and just learning the lay of the land.

But my new Summit Viper Treestand was awesome! The comfort level is obscene.

I read a GREAT book written by a good friend. It is an amazing TRUE story of one man's escape from a Communist regime. You will not take your freedom for granted after you read No Paved Road to Freedom

Come to think of it, I may have had a bunch of deer walk by while I was reading. emoScratch

Where do I start at...

I tried to do some hunting years ago (16 or better) for a couple of years. Stomped around in the woods and set up stands. I seen only 1 deer walk by me in those 3 years and missed it! I quit right then and there...LOL.

Now Ive started back. I have some great friends that are guiding me along teaching me the basics and gonna make sure I get to gut my own!

Lets go backwards....Sat up on on some property Sunday night that has trails freaking everywhere and pretty fresh too. Acorns all around us ans squirrels are plentiful. Actually had one run down the tree I was in and get about 6 feet from me. What a thrill! Never did see any deer but we're working with the owner on the boundaries tonight and scouting a bit more.

Saturday night we headed up Bakewell Mtn where we have been given 25 plus acres to hunt...way back in the sticks. There's a crap load of 4 runners back there and very loud. Some decent signs but no takers that night.

Saturday morning...LOL...I have permission to archery hunt the 6 wooded lots right next to my house. I walk maybe 100 yard and enter them. After fighting with my harness...I get up in the tree and relax. About an hour after Im there, I spot the first doe. Not a bad one but 45 yards away and theres no clear shot. Then I spot another one thats bigger with a fawn. They never blew on me but seemed to stay in that one general location. The biggest moved in about 35 yards, still no shot and Im really not comfortable with that range just yet. 15 to 25, I can nail my targets. What a thrill to sit there and watch them...heart pounding...taking deeper breathes just waiting for them to walk on in. They never did and went back down a ridge cut. About 10 am, I came down and scoped out where they were. Fresh acorns and they had been bedding down there. Needless to say, Im moving in a tad closer next time! By 10:48, I was cutting my grass. Ha!

Ended up selling off allot of old music equipment. Thanks Spur for passing the info to your church! Took some of that cash and bought a Thompson Black Diamond with Buckmaster scope, case, and everything to fire it 26 times from Cheez. $275 out the door. ;)

Pat Owensby got me a High country bow for $100 bucks. New biscuit and sights installed. Great condition and shoots very nice. He also hooked me up on a free climber tree stand. I had to clean it up a bit and add some pad for the seat but it works! harness courtesy of Teddy. Thanks Guys!

Spent some of the left overs on camo and accessories...I'm good to go! Really is nice to get the extreme exercise and get in the woods. I just cant wait to take one home!

If any of you guys want some company and can help a new hunter out...PM Me! God knows I cant afford a lease right now. Boats sales with trailer sales suck!

Way to go Billy!!! Can you take me a deer? emoPoke emoBigsmile Just kidding....glad to see you out there. I like to get out up a tree and watch nature come alive once it cools off. If there is frost or snow it is even better. It lets your mind relax and unwind. It will not be too much longer before the weather turns and bucks start to rut..... emoDance looking forward to it. Today(Tues.) was the 1st time I've hunted this year. At 8:10 a big yote came through in a steady trot & I couldn't get him to stop & it was too thick to try n sling one at him. At 10:15 a lone doe cam through & gave me a broadside shot at 12 yards. Thought she was a little bigger than what she is, bout 50 lbs. Just had lunch & gonna skin n quarter her right now. Gonna get after em again Thur & Fri.
