Two Questions:

1.What knot do you use to tie a florocarbon or mono shock leader onto your small diameter braided line?

2. What loop knot do you tie through the eye of an action lure to allow for freedom of movement and still be super strong?

What lure are you fishing with while using this braid / floro rig?

1) I don't use fluorocarbon, can't afford it just yet. But I did a search and some say use a very small barrell swivel. Others say use an albright knot.

Just type in your search engine - tying braid to fluocarbon. you'll get a ton of ideas.

2) I don't use a loop knot. I use o-rings. I use the polymar to tie on the o-ring.

North American Fishing club has had this Knot wars competition to test strength of knots.
They proved, at least with their Berkley lines, that Modified Albright is the strongest, however it is too involved if you are not deep sea fishing, the J-knot is simpler and almost the same strength. Uni-to-Uni is good but J-knot is still simpler. That is for shock leaders.

Loop knots -- King Sling proved to be the strongest and was good with all three types of line, but because the lure must pass through a loop in the end of the tie, the final loop will be rather large. And like wise probably better with a hook-only set up. McNally Loop was a comparable strength and good with all three types of line, and could be shrunk to a size suitable for crank baits.

The knots are found in the following episodes:
Modified Albright, Line to Line, Episode 12,13, 2010
J-Knot Line to Line Episode 10,11,12, 2010

McNally Loop, Loop knot, Episode 12 2009
King Sling, Loop Knot, Episode 12 2009

I will always put a swivel between braid and other line on a leader junction. I will connect them with a double palomar at the swivel and the bait. I have used the dbl. palomar with all types of line and varying sizes and I have never had a problem with slippage or knot failure. The trick is to tighten with the tag end of the line and wet to complete the knot, not the reel end.

If I need a lose knot or circular pick up,the rapala knot is hard to beat. Just like any other knot, practice is the key to a successful completion.

Here are the knots that i use:

Joining a braid to mono or a small line to a larger line. it's the Slim Beauty. I have found that blood knots in small brain will slip loose.

Here are two links for the Slim Beauty:

The loop knot that I insist onis the Cosmos non-slip loop. This is the only loop I know of that you can tie through the hook eye. It will not slip.

Try these out.
