Help Support Chattanooga Fishing Forum:

I have heard of people having alot of success using hair jigs up there.I don't have any so I can't say for sure but I would guess that they would work.
The only thing I can say for sure is that you have to use light line!Last year I fished up there with 10lb test and got skunked more than a few times, this year nothing but 6lb green mono for me and I've caught fish everytime I've been. The gin clear water of the lower lake will not let you get away with heavy line.
So there, I have found the tracks leading to the grail, but I have just begun my journey after it!

Hey Flip, do you have a scanner? If so, could you email the map to me? For all of you that have fished the lake, what is the prevalent baitfish? And what color are they? If you don't want to share too much prior to the tourney, I'll understand ;).

Ranman, could I beef up line test by respooling with Vanish, say in the 10-12lb range? Are you flipping the laydowns with 6lb mono?

RE: Parksville 4-23-06, line selection?

That's a good question Jason I often wonder about. What does everyone use? I would not ever flip lay downs with less than 14 lb. test. I have been known to use as heavy as 20 lb. test. I like 10 and 12 for small tube, finese baits and small baits in open water. I like 14 lb test for my cranks, puppy and flukes as well as gitzits. I also use 14 lb for my leader on my C-rig. On my C-rig main line I usually use 17 so if I hang the bait the leader breaks and I get my beads, swivel and sinker back. I also like 14 or 17 on my T-rig. Now flippin heavy lay downs, pads and moss at the G, as well as heavy buzzes and spinner baits I like 17 and 20 lb to have the strength to pull the big ones out. I keep a verity of lines and reels spooled up but that way I can adjust to the water, clearity and what I am fishing. I am not as bad as Davo, he must have 20 spooled up out on his boat to use when he goes.emoPoke But I'll admit I have around 10 normally with a selection to choose from.

I'd be interested to know how everyone else feels????emoScratch Jmax

Map update...

flip - I saw one of those books yesterday at the Wally on Brainerd Rd ... it's no better than anything we haven't already seen for P'ville. There is an overhead map of the lake, but no contours. All the other lakes have at least a little contour info, but not P'ville. About the only thing it does is show the names of the tributaries...

I hate giving you this info AFTER you ordered the book.

With regards to the line size ?'s ... I'd HIGHLY recommend flouro up there. Maybe 6 or 8 for deep finesse and 14+ for those laydowns. All 3 of my pitching rods are spooled with braid, but I'll be changing over one of them to flouro just for this reason. As it warms some and rains less, that water gets gin-clear ... even more so than now.

...my .02 cents

Thats o.k. I like having maps of any lakes I can get. You never know when I may take off to Cherokee or Douglas or somewhere else in east Tn. The last few days that I fished Parksville the water on the upper end, within a half mile or so of the ramp had enough color to use heavy line, I was using 20 pound stren, blue florescent ( because my eyes are so bad) on my flippin stick. But I'm willing to bet that, like RR said, when that T comes around there wont be any color and smaller line will be a must. Jason, somebody else will have to chime in about the baitfish. I did see a small school of shad, they were about 6" and I think they were Gizzard shad. Somebody said there are rainbow Trout in there, is this correct? If so I'm sure the Bass feed on them pretty good too. I will tell you this though, there are so many laydowns and so much brush in that lake, and you already know where the bass go when you hook them, its a challenge. I got broke off a few times the other day. The fish werent real big, just getting them to the top and out of the trees is hard on light line.

Jmax, I usually use just 8# line and most of the time nothing heavier than 14. If I am fishing at Parksville or one of the lakes up home for smallmouth I use either 6 or 8. It just works better in the clearer water. Have hardly ever found many of the smallmouths in the brush but usually close to it instead. Been tryint to learn the carolina rig style and haven't done too well at it at all. I will use spyder wire at night using a spinnerbait and buzzbait. Like to use it also spooning. May have to start a new post cause this should be a good question! emoThumbsup

I use 14lb Sensation for cranks, spinnerbaits, and topwater. For finnesse, I keep a spinning rod spooled with 10lb Vanish. My flippin' stick is spooled with 30lb PowerPro, which is virtually invisible. For Parksville, I think I'll spool a baitcaster with 10lb Vanish for shakey-head and grubs, keep the 10lb Vanish on my spinning rod for drop-shot, and spool my flippin' stick with 17lb Vanish. I've used that weight for heavy cover and didn't have a problem with horsing the bass out. The only issue I've had with flouro is breakage at the knot, but since switching to the Trilene knot rather than the Palomar, that hasn't happened. I think I'll leave the 14lb Sensation on my other baitcaster for the chance of a topwater bite.

I don't use flouro anymore Jason,I hate the stuff! I also don't flip with the 6# line.As a matter of fact I really don't flip at all on parksville. What I'm doing is a little different from the way you would normally fish laydowns on a dirtier lake.It is so clear up there that you can't really get that close to the laydowns without spooking the fish in my opinion.

Yeah ... shut up ranman! I know exactly what you're talking about!! emoLaugh

Give me a yell jason. You can run up there with me and I'll show you pb&j pattern! Seriously ... anytime dude.

OK, without sharing too much info on why or why not;), should I respool a couple reels with fluoro or just downsize line strength? I'd rather not do the fluoro thing, unless it is necessary, because it will be trashed and replaced with mono after the tourney.

spool all your rods with the heaviest braid you can find in flourecent yellow. Then ,you troll up to the laydown real close like all the way up to where it's trunk comes off the bank.Follow me so far? Then you tap your feet on the deck of the boat 4 times, tap your rod on the side of the boat 3 times then pitch your 3/4 oz chartrues and flouro blue jig out across the log your trolling motor is banging up against to the other side and make sure you get a good splash when it enters the water. That should work if the sun is high and your fishinfg behind another boat (which you will be doing on a Saturday)If that doesn't work resort to plan B, Dynamite! Just kidding Jason,I would go with the mono myself, but that's just me I have a bad attitude.I suck up there and just about everywhere else I'm fishing for money.I can't fish well under pressure.

Hey Ranman I was catching good fish on 20 lb. blue flor. stren line, no kidding. But it was the way I fishing that it didnt matter, know what I mean?
