Looks like a Koi to me.

As a sidenote, I have seen "mirror" carp in Parksville on several occassions.

You are correct. They are the same genius and species as common carp.

They have been bred for specific color variations for centuries. I would agree that someone let them out of their pond into the lake.

heath j, could you give an estimate of the width of that koi, that first pic looked very wide but there are not reference objects in the pic. thanks

Look at the 3rd pic and in the top left corver you can see one of those white seed pod thingies that you can reference its size to. I'd say it was at least 2lbs. Maybe more
 
Yes they are pretty valuable at that size, when they get that big they usually run around $100 each from the ones I have seen. I used to do landscaping and we used them in small water features/ponds, they are just a small version of a carp.
