In reference to your inquiry on our policy disallowing the carrying of firearms in our warehouse stores.
Costco does not believe that it is necessary for firearms to be brought into its warehouse stores, except in the case of authorized law enforcement officers. For the protection of all our members and employees, we feel this is a reasonable and prudent precaution to ensure a pleasant shopping experience and safe workplace. Our policy is meant to protect our members and employees in all warehouses around the world. This is not a new policy and we do not customize the policy for each individual city/county/state/country where we do business.
Bringing a firearm into our warehouse does not enhance the shopping experience. We are sorry the message you are hearing is that “we don’t want you.” It is the firearms that we exclude in the warehouses, not the carriers.

Thank you,

Costco Wholesale Corporation

Here is the thought I am having..........I have a conceal carry permit,I also have my sidearm with me.When I pull into their parking lot I see the sign and put sidearm in truck. I go in a start shopping and at some point a criminal that doesnt adhere to the sign comes in and starts to rob the store, during the robbery the criminal decides to take hostages and shoots me in the leg.Im out of work and dont have any income for months during rehab. Is this store responsible for my hospital bills and lost wages since they have taken away my ability to protect myself in their store? I believe if you can legally carry a gun for protection and someone takes that right away from you they are responsible to protect you while on their property.Just a thought.Maybe I will pose this question to corporate office.

VERY GOOD QUESTION!!

OK I am pretty new to this area and though I believe you should be able to go anywhere you want with your gun. I find it a bit, let's say scary that you guys are really worried about the criminals here. Is that bad of a place to live, I have not noticed anything since I have been here so far..

Just wondering if I made the wrong choice moving here and that it seems like me and my wife are going to have to arm ourselves..

fred, have you watched the news or read the papers, things happen,we that have a permit, have gotten it from being a very good person an staying out of trouble..we have a right to be able to protect ourselfs an our loved ones..it better to be prepared,an not thinking that after something happens, what if i had had a gun...i have had my permit so long an my wife has gotten used to it an feels safe ,that when we go somewhere ,she will ask me ,,,do you have you gun...i really an truly hope you never have a problem...just my thoughts. emoUSA

The bill of rights says we have the right to bare arms. It doesnt say exept places where a sign is posted that says no guns allowed. If so, than every place could post the same sign.So are they not infringing on our rights. If we abide by the many rules the gov has put in place and they still don't let us carry guns legally. What rights are we in danger of loosing next.

@yellburt; I normally do not watch the news that much I am sorry to say. I just never realized this city was that bad.

I am all for people carrying there guns, my dad carries his everywhere, I really wasn't trying to say it was wrong or anything like that.

I just had another thought,I know its scary that Ive had 2 in one day but.I have never been to a Costco but if they dont serve alcohol they dont fall in the (guns in bars) law which makes it illegal to carry a gun where alcohol is served if posted. What is the law against carrying a gun into a store that has a sign posted.I probably wont carry a gun in Costco ,mainly cause evidently they dont want my business but what if someone does what is the law that is broken?

any business can post a no gun sign on their doors. and it is legit as long as they put it on their front door or front window. plenty of other places that i can shop and carry my pistol that will get my money. to many nut jobs out there that will shoot you for no reason. i carry my pistol everywhere with me.

Chattanooga is no worse than any other city it's size, except for a core area of downtown, but look around the entire country....crazy people are shooting up churches, schools, colleges, grocery stores, the malls, courthouses, Ft Hood, hell even the Pentagon got shot up last week! The laws clearly state that if a law abiding person wants to take their own safety into their own hands they can. This right should not be infringed upon.

Most of Chattanooga is not that bad. It is not a matter of a place being bad or not. It is a matter of whether you wish to be a victim or not. I choose not to be a victim no matter where I am. No place that I know of is completely immuned from crime. There are crazy people everywhere. I carry a loaded firearm almost everywhere I go. I have had extensive training and I carry legally. I have gone through background checks by local law enforcement, GBI, TBI and the FBI. That said I am no threat to anyone other than someone who wishes to do harm to my family or myself. Therefore I refuse to patronize any business that will not allow me to protect my family.

If someone does'nt see it then who cares and who knows that you have it. It's not for showing off, it is concealed for "just in case", which can happen at anytime. The 12" 44 Magnum ain't easy to conceal. If the thug or punk sees yours before you can get it out, then the surprise for him is ruined. Rules, policies, and laws are broken all the time without being known, these places don't have metal detectors checking you as you enter. Not saying it is right, but if it meant your still above the ground alive, then you won the game that time. Explain it to jury that you just saved yourself and maybe others in a life threatening situation, I seriously doubt you'd be charged. 5 words to always remember if you do have to use it, "I Feared For My Life". Just my 2 cents.

What you are saying is all well and good with one exception. If you ignore the no gun sign and go in and you are caught you will loose your carry permit in the state of Tennessee. Get caught carrying without the HCP and you become a felon and lose your right to even own a firearm or vote among others. Not worth the risk especially when there are many other places to shop that allow legal carry of firearms.

IF you have a conceal carry permit I wouldn't worry about it. I am not sure exactly what the law refers to in Tenn on this subject but in GA the most that would happen, in all probability, the company could ban you from the store. IF it is concealed then, like was said, they are not going to know about it anyway so again that is no problem. I don't like seeing someone carrying a gun out in the open unless I see a badge close to the gun or the person is in uniform. If you carry concealed AND have a permit and should meet up with law enforcement let them know as soon as possible so it won't be a surprise. The ones that have a permit aren't the ones to worry about 99% of the time. Criminals are not going to have a permit but will still carry no matter what sign is posted and look for areas that are the best opportunity for them to have as little resistance as possible.

HOW LONG WILL YOU BE CONSIDERED A FELON?

Commit ANY felony with a firearm and you will NEVER own another firearm legally as long as you live.

What is Walmarts policy? Bi Lo? Food Lion? Sams? Nice place to create a list.

All of these allow legal carry of firearms in their stores. As a matter of fact the overwhelming majority of businesses allow legal carry. There are only a handful of liberty deniers in our area. Here are a few of the more prominent ones. There are probably more but not many.

Regions Bank
Outback Steakhouse
Hamilton Place Mall proper
Jared's Jewelers
Regal Cinemas
