Nothing set in stone but a possible move to Chattanooga next spring. Two questions: 1. I have a small (14.5 foot aluminum boat with a 25 horse Johnson) boat and I have heard the Chick is pretty busy with boat traffic so where are good areas I can get in and poke around catching a few bass and 2. What is a decent part of town with a little breathing room (I have a 50 mile daily round trip commute into Knoxville so I don't mind driving a little). Thanks in advance! Wood

Answer to Question #1... Absolutely "Yes!" Plenty of times & places to poke around in any size vessel, canoe, kayak or inner tube to have fun and catch some fish. Too many places to name all... generally it's a matter of "timing." Hit the water early and get gone before Noon when all the pleasure boats start prowling "en masse." But that's mainly weekends... weekdays really aren't bad at all.

Answer to Question #2... lots of possibilities, but for decent access to town AND lake... look for something out in the Hwy. 58 area... or Hixson (i.e. Hixson Pike).

You'll like it here. emoWelcome

what Richard said.....however, you need to take a look Soddy-Daisy.......it sure is nice up here and you can get to Knox rather quickly...... and we have the nicest folks...FAemoGrouphug

if your not stuck on tennessee... check out North Georgia!!! Less Taxes and nice and spaced out for the most part!!

Maybe Chickamauga thats a very nice place to live!!! and only 30 mins from Wolf Tever Boat ramp!!

As far as fishing goes if you wanna stay out of traffic WHICH IS HARD TO DO!!!! Try fishing Wolf Tever and the small sloughs close to there!!

North GA less taxes LOL .. Wheel taxes, income taxes.. TN have neither.

Soddy daisy is great place.. but so is Sale Creek , Graysville, Dayton, or just over the hill is Dunlap and Whitwell , North Ga house generally cost more .. you'll get best bang for you buck in Dunlap or Whitwell for land and houses.

Of Course Dunlap and Whitwell are not close to the Chickamauga as the other areas are ,, but you would be about half way between nick-a-jack lake and Chickamauga lake.

Other good areas, Harrison areas towards Decatur, and another area you may want to look into is Browns Ferry , and Look Out Valley Area.

JUst my 2 cents

check chickamauga taxes budd!!

Sales tax is way cheaper!!!

If you have mechanic work done say on body work or outboard work or on a car you dont get charged sales tax on the labor just the parts!! which anyone can go to georgia to do that....

If you have kids georgia schools are good unlike what hamilton county is going through right now....

If your looking to get away from everything then yea dunlap or whitwell would be good LOL

THERES NOTHING THERE!!!

I know all politicians suck LOL but at least Georgia's Reps are not getting busted for all kinds of crazy stuff like embezlement.... bribery!!

income tax might be why we can drive on our roads and not bust shocks by hitting pot holes every 50 feet LOL

I could go on and on about tennessee I have lived there but now im glad im in georgia!!

I JUST WISH THE DANG LAKE WAS DOWN THE ROAD LIKE MOST PLACES IN TENNESSEE!!emoBang

your right NRG about Graysville area if i were to live in Tennessee it would be graysville!!

Actually If I could move any where in the area it would be Stevenson or Scottsborro AL .. or up on Sand Mtn the people are some of the nicest folks Ive ever met and Guntersville is at your back door.

With all the travel I did in a 100 mile radius of Chattanooga when I worked for Dell doing on site service , I met people and saw about every lil town and hole in the wall in the region.. and for me N. AL stood out as a place Id love to live.. no they aint got shopping malls all over etc etc .. and to me that is a good thing .. I live in Soddy Daisy Im just a few miles from all the shopping a person could need... and yes its convenient .. but Id trade it all for N.AL if I could.. but Id have to be single lol ..cause the wife loves the shopping here.

Ga just never has thrilled me .. dont know why except I do like the area around Sloppy Floyd lake, so peaceful down through there, Maybe the mountain up above Chattsworth over to Blue Ridge and Ellijay .. Western NC over to just past Murphy was part of our service area too .. again just never was thrilled with it either..

TN , GA , AL, or NC I'm sure one could be happy in any of them ,, but for me TN or AL will be the only place I call home.. not trying to start a battle of which state is better.
They all have there good points and bad points... I just have to go with the over all feeling in TN and AL as a place to call home

I live in Ooltewah ( Harrison side) and I am 10 minutes from the lake and like Soddy folks, don't have to pay city taxes. Soddy or Ooltewah would be my choices.

ARE YOU NUTS? Taxes "cheaper" in GA? The sales tax is much higher in TN because they don't have an income tax= EVERYONE pays their share! Last year my wife and I paid more than $12,000 in state income tax- I couldn't afford to spend that much money to come close to that in sales tax in TN (and we STILL pay 6% sales tax)! I pay in excess of $600/year in ad valorem tax on my vehicles- in TN it would cost me $100! GA state and local governments are considering making many roads in the Atlanta area toll roads- these are EXISTING highways that were built many years ago! We pay in excess of $1800/year in property tax on less than one acre of land and a two story house! The Atlanta City Council just voted to INCREASE property taxes 42% (read FORTY TWO PERCENT)! I could go on but my BP is now in the red zone!

Everyone is forgetting about Kimball, Tn., Gods country, 10 minutes away from the Nickajack lake and Guntersville lake, Kimball city taxes are terrible, I pay $45.00 every year emoLaughand we have street lights, garbage pick up 2 times a week, got a wallyworld, all the drive thru eating places just like the big cities, can't be beat in my book. We are about 30 minutes from Chattanooga.

I have lived in Chickamauga the last 5 or 6 years and I was raised in Rossville. I can't say I'd live anywhere else mainly because I have two boys and I just can't think of putting them through school anywhere but Walker County schools. If I left it would be close to our family on Sand Mtn. Beautiful up there and your right over Scottsborro.

Soddy-Daisy.......... everyone is forgetting he has to drive to Knoxville every day......come to the house and I will personally show you around.....we have mountains and lakes and streams and me.....FA

FA I think he is saying he currently drives to Knoxville, I dont think he ment he would be moving here and still driving to Knoxville after moving to Chattanooga

I live in the same area as fishinvol, however we will be the first to get annexed according to the plans, so how long it will be, could be in a ouple years or 10 however it will happen with the new VW plant coming into town. On the otherside used to live in birchwood, and most of the areas have some kind of close access to the water, and on most days allot less crowded.

I never dreamed I'd get such great information. Whether it happens or not, I'd still like to fish with you guys someday and you're welcome up here on Ft. Loudon anytime. I'm off on Fridays!

Lakesite. It's basically Soddy, but less property taxes than just about anywhere in Hamilton County. Plus you have 3 or 4 boat ramps within about 10min drive. I fish from a 16ft aluminum boat with 20hp and do fine around the Chester Frost Park and Soddy Creek areas. There is plenty of water and little holes for you to get into.
