Possibly Moving to Nooga area

Hi guys,

I may possibly be moving near Chattanooga within the year, and working in middle Tennessee (in the middle of no where ha). Currently I live in the suburbs of Atlanta and grew up in the suburbs of New York, so I'm definitely used to suburb living. While I would love to live in Chatt or Soddy Daisy....it would make the commute too far.

Anyone have any insight into the areas west of Chattanooga, like Kimball or South Pittsburg area? Is it very rural around that area? Any suggestions on towns to live that are just a little west of Chattanooga? Is the western part of Chattanooga itself nice, or is it more of the undesirable part of town?

Thanks for any help! If I do move, i'll be much closer to Chick and Nick so that is good

IMO...there is not much on the west side of Missionary Ridge, worth looking at. UNDESIREABLE is a under-statement. Tiftonia is not bad, a little old, with little new growth. Jasper/ South Pittsburg...small towns USA. Good folks there.

Jasper & South Pittsburg ... anywhere in Marion County... great places with great fishing, assuming you can deal with the culture-shock based on where you've been living. emoBigsmile

haha, culture shock for sure! I'm used to have an array of places to eat within miles of home.

The good thing with a small town, not much to do but go fishing every day

I would try either South Pittsburg or Jasper - good people, good fishing!

I'm glad Ron the con Littlefield didn't give you a lifetime job as booster spokesperson for Chattanooga... you don't seem to like the city much.

What do consider middle Tn ? You might look at Winchester (near Tim's Ford) that would put you in reach of Nick, Tims and Guntersville.
And for your big city fix, you'd have Nashville.
I've just always considered Chatt to be SE Tn.

Monteagle might be a choice, wherever you started, fishing or work, the day would start out down hill.

LITTLEFIELD is the "X" Mayor, thank GOD. Perhaps you can tell me a WONDERFUL area on the westside of the ridge? My SPANISH isn't good enough for East Lake. I don't have enough BULLETS to survive (actually I do) in the downtown area. Lets be truthful to the new guy. There is a shooting or killing almost nightly in the CHATTANOOGA area. Check...POLICEMAN shot two days ago. So yep. I love my little box. Out here in EAST BRAINERD. Oh, and new guy....take your gun to town.

Hey easy does it buzzed ever hear of toungue and cheek or is sarcasm just way over your head?

I don't live in chatt only above it and I don't go anywhere without my austrian buddy.

BUT Black Creek is very nice on the westen edge of Chatt Hamilton county. Elder mountian, lookout mtn there are some NOT gang aflicted areas.
IMO east Brainard is a little Atlanta want-to-be. WAAAAAAY over built, not enough infrastructure and too many idiots driving and texting.

I criss-cross this county daily with work and I'd not choose East Brainerd for my family.

What part of middle Tennessee are you taking about ? Having lived in Kimball, Fayetteville, Carthage, Smyrna, Dayton (2X) and Chattanooga (2X), the term middle Tennessee covers a lot of area. Depending on location of your employment , and how much you enjoy commuting being on the other side of the mountain may be your only choice. Chick is on fire, no doubt. But you can fish on the dark side. There is Tims, Normandy, Percy Priest, Old Hickory, Center Hill, Cordell Hull, Dale Hollow, plus the Tennessee impoundments in Alabama. You probably won't see a 44#+ stringer on that side, nor the 13+ caught last week, but I haven't had catches on this side that are close to those.
Middle Tennessee is not urban ,the old Peace Corps term would be "culture shock " will fit quite well after metro NYC and Atlanta. The great thing is you will become friends with some of the finest people you could meet. Just stay away from the chop shops in Grundy county.
