Is it me or have other noticed how some people really have no courtesy or consideration for others at the ramp?? Its not rocket science, you just have to use common sense.

1. When you putting in get your boat ready away from the ramp not on it!!! Unless you can do your thing in less than a couple minutes you should do your prep work before you start backing down the ramp.. I have seen people rigging rods and all kinds of things while parked on the ramp.

2. When coming out of the water rig your boat for travel OFF the ramp. Again I have seen many people pull out of the water just to stop on the ramp and then get the boat ready for travel. Do that up at the parking area not on the ramp

3. When its dark out kill your headlights when you start backing down this way they lights dont blind others trying to backup..

4. Leave enough room around the ramp for people to make the turn around.. Many times I have seen people who are going in or coming out and the do pull off the ramp but just to the area where you need to have room to turn your rig around and back down.

I have mentioned, nicely and kind of jokingly to a couple of people who did one of the follow, like hey next time you might want to turn off your lights when you back down, I couldnt see and came a little close to your truck.. The guy tells me then next time why dont you just wait till I am done!!

I dont mean to sound so sour but man some people just dont have a clue about ramp courtesy.
Or is all this just me?? Please tell me I am not the only one who has noticed things like this.

I wonder if one of use wrote up some rules if the people at the park would post them??? Nice big sign on either side of the ramp and one facing it so when you pull around to back down you see it too.

I with you friend. I was trying to launch one time and a guy (passenger) was standing outside the truck talking on his cell phone and wouldn't even move so I could launch. I finally got angry and came within 6 inches of him and he finally moved. I waited at least 10 minutes before I launched anyway. A little courtesy goes a long way.

My backing skills (can't see the dang trailer///F-250 4x4, to get boat on), I'll let 2 or 3 folks a head of me. Same with launching....somehow a few minutes...just doesn't mean that much to me.

Oh I am not talking about people who have a little issue backing, that cant be avoided. But prep time and leaving your lights on at night its those little things I was talking about.

Might as well get used to it. It's only going to get worse when the water and temps get higher. That's why I night fish in the summer!

#3 is the biggest pain of all if you ask me. But I believe allot of the time the guy backing the truck down probably doesn't own it. There for he probably doesn't know how to turn off the automatic lights. On most Chevy & Gm's turn on the lights to the first click (the parking lights only) & thenpush in the dome over ride button 4 times. It turns out the head lights. Boater please try to remember to tell you riders about this before the back your truck down. ...Thanks...2jigs...</p>

I knew what you meant....OK...honey, (on the ramp)...load the kids on the pontoon, wait....gotta get the cooler....ok. Wait the life jackets are in the truck, it's gonna be hot....lets go aheadand raise the top. emoBang Been there.

The funniest...I was wanting to leave HB one time...it was hot. Well Biff and Buffie, had a new ski boat. Biff takes up the whole ramp, Buffie has ahold of the rope. Biff backs down...boat doesnt float off the trailer....OK, Biff, pull forward...back faster, slam on brakes. Still no floating boat. So, I sez to Biffie. Ma'am..I don't want to sound like a smart azz, but if you take those tie-downs off the back of the boat.....it will float off the trailer.

Now Biff is mad. He pulls up, takes said tie downs off. It floats! He tells Buff..GO PARK THE TRUCK. I beach my boat, go get my truck and get back to the ramp. Biff sez...hey buddy...I forget to put the plug in my boat. (OF COARSE..I SNICKERED). Hesaid, what do I do? He asks...can't I blast off and it will pull the water out? I said yep...it will do just that, as it's getting up to his carpet by now. I said see those markers out past that little house on the end, thats all no wake. My next question to him. Does the plug go in the back of the boat, or from the inside. It goes in from the outside. SOOO...I said, you might make it past the no-wake, BUT what if you DROP the plug, then what you gonna do. emoHoppingmad . Next question? What would you do? I said, I'd put it back on the trailer, drain it start over. emoLaugh

BUFFIE GO GET THE*%&&^$$...truck. I love the newbies!!!!!

I agree with all that you said. I make it a habit to have the boat rigged to launch, before I ever start down the ramp. In addition, when I am putting on lures, fixing my tackle box, or whatever it is, I make sure I am doing it AWAY from the ramp or dock, and not blocking everyone in. Get your boat in or out of the water and get out of the way.

I've noticed the same but its usually with the pleasure, ski boats. Those nuckleheads have no clue of ramp courtesy .

Well I feel a little better knowing I am not the only one.. I dont have a problem with someone learning to back down, we all had to learn somehow. It just irks me when people have that attitude like I will do what I want when I want and if it inconveniences you tough luck... Well most people I have run across have the act together.. I guess I am a little spoiled as I am one of the very lucky men who has a wife who not only can pull the boat but can back the trailer down for me too!!! Makes getting in and out of the water so much easier.. No if I could just get her to not cook so darn good I would weigh about 30lbs less. LOL

This may help with backing.
Put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel, now when you want the trailer to go to the left, with your hand at the bottom of the wheel move your hand left. If you want the trailer to go to the right move your hand to the right.

This method makes backing by using the mirrors easier.

Just remember to grasp the wheel at the bottom!

The uncourtes one are just boat owners and don't have a clue. Concord ramp on Fourt Loudon is the worst I have ever seen. Its fun to just sit and watch and laugh at the idiots. There should be signs to instruct people what to do in case they really don't know.(and someone to enforce it)

Ran into this yesterday at the Chick Dam ramp. That place was packed with people taking the boat out for the first time of the year and so on. My biggest issue was people not being able to park with the trailer between the lines. I finally found a place to park but had no room to pull out and had to back the trailer up back and forth untill I had room to pull out and go around the circle back to the ramp. You really do see some funny stough out there.

... and when they do finally get the trailer backed in the water and are sitting ther on the ramp, they have bad, old gas, or no gas or a dead battery! They haven't got smarts enough to check the night before!? Happens every April through Memorail Day week end. Another thing that bothers me is the people sitting on the docks fishing, or sunning or what ever that absolutly will not move out of the way to let a boat pull in to tie up and unload. They just sit there and look at you!

Some people think that if they take the straps off their boat it will come off when they back down the ramp.

Chickamauga is the most heavily used lake in TN. It leads the state in BIOS, boating related accidents, and boating related deaths. That many pleasure boaters means the ramps are screwed. Best thing to do is keep your cool and politely educate the ones that will listen. We go to the lake to have fun, so don't let a lake rookie put you in a bad mood. If you don't like crowded ramps, stay away from.this lake on pretty days.

While we r on the topic, this goes out to churly. Can you do something about letting people at the cba to know not to pull in the parking lot and just stop? They leave you hanging out in the middle of the road while they sit and wait for a parking place so they can bull#$#@ with their buddy. Just a thought.

I can deal with people who dont use a ramp as much as people who fish alot, they do some funny and stupid things. What kinda makes me wonder "what are they thinking" are the people at tournments who launch their boat early an want to TIE to the docks and sit in the boat. This leaves no room to go in and get your partner. Maybe they think their making a bigger dock an want you to walk through their boat ? I say get your partner and GET OUT OF THE WAY. Sorry if anyone takes this the wrong way....but if you do ......your probably TIED TO THE DOCK !!!
