RE: Ratman's 5/8 TX this Friday

<strike>The radar is still not showing any activity in our area. HOWEVER, we are under storm watch in the surrounding counties including Meigs, McMinn and Rhea.

So here is what we will do. We will proceed as if the weather is ok. Sign-ups will start around 5:30PM. If the weather takes a turn or a verified threat is heading our way prior to blast off at 6:45 way we will cancel. (money will be returned).

Once blast off occurs no money will be refunded regardless of weather. We will have the weigh-in at 9:45PM

Just a brief rules reminder:</strike>

<font size="4">I had no sooner posted this than a huge thunder storm hit right here at my house. Strong winds, thunder, lightening and heavy rain. The doppler wasn't showing any of it in the area. It just boiled up and hit. </font>

I heard thunder and looked outside and we are having a strong storm right now where I live. High winds, thunder, lightening and heavy rain. It just boiled up and hit with out showing upon the dopplers.</font></p>

i know there is a concern about the weather, but every time there is a chance of rain does that mean the tournament might be cancelled.there was not one drop of rain and it was a beautiful evening.i was at the ramp at 6;15 and watched 15 boats go home and wondering why the tournament was cancelled.i guess if there is a chance of rain i will stay home.

I don't think that is the case Jack, but you have to understand that these summer storms can pop up at any given time. Last week it was absolutely beautiful on the way to the ramp, only to have the bottom fall out 5 minutes before blast off. We fished it anyway in the worst weather I have ever fished in. There are Tornado watches out right now for parts of Tn on the North side of the lake, and it is just one of those situations where you're danged if you do and danged if you don't

That is your decision and I support it fully. The reality of the situation is we fished in steady pouring rain for the entire 3 hours last week so the "every time there is chance of rain" argument is not accurate in this case.

When there are Tornado Watches and Strong Storm warnings issued the responsible thing to do is cancel the tournament. A chance of rain and chance of severe weather are two different things. If it was just rain we would have fished.

We have canceled two tournaments and both were because the national weather service had severe weather warnings issued.

I want to remind every one that for the past two days the rescue workers have been looking for two bodies below the dam. This is the reality of what can happen when you miscalculate the power of the water or the weather.

this tournament shouldnt have been canceled ..... there are chances of storms everyday from here on out pretty much untill fall....

There were blue skys all evening on the chick.... it should have been a game time decision or at least show up and let the people know that it was canceled since at 4 it was posted it was on

Got to admit, the weather was clear and pretty for the chick last night. We waited also thinking that at 4 it said it was on. I will say that the flip side to that was I probably would not have gone fishing that evening if I had known it was canceled and I had a great evening out fishing. Caught 40 bass and was a great evening on the water with Jason. Good fellowship and a lot of fun. emoAngel Would not have had that outing if it had canceled earlier so I feel I came out ahead. emoThumbsup Jmax

Last week I get called an idiot for having the tournament in the rain and this week I am getting blasted because I tried to make a responsible decision.

All three local TV stations were broadcasting Storm Warnings and Tornado Watches. A huge electrical storm hits at my house verifying to me they knew what they were talking about. I canceled the Tournament due to these factors. All the 2nd guessers can 2nd guess all they want to. It is over and done.

Yes it rains in the summer, yes if it is just rain we will fish. HOWEVER, if the local TV stations have the storm watch Icons and Tornado icons on the screen for Hamilton, Miegs and Rhea and the national weather service has issued tornado watches and severe storm warnings this tournament will be canceled each time this occurs.

Well I have been trying to fish the tx for the last to weeks so I could have been eligable for the 500 next week. Last week I pulled up to chester frost at 6:15 and as soon as I got out of the truck the lighting hit so I got back in the truck and the bottom fell out. I checked the forum yesterday at 4:30 befor I left work and did see where it was canceled so I have to admit I was alittle suprised but even though the weather held up and I went fishing anyway. Popeyedpete buddy you have a tough desition to make everyweek and after what happened last week I can see how you could have been a little gun shy so I hope everybody doesn't give you a hard time its just one tx and I know there is plenty more to come.

i think you made the right decision, even though the evening turned out nice i went to sale creek and the clouds on the other side of the moutain looked like it could storm at any time and you never know when it could start up here. also you had a post at 3:03 and at3:23 that said tx is cancelled.i live in ringgold and i could have waited up to 5:30 before i couldnt make it. sorry your takin a bashing but you did right concerning everyones safety

Hey guys don't bash popeyedpete so much it was a joint decision between the two of us.We made the choice for the saftey of all the ones that fish with us the last thing we want is someone hurt.It did come a bad storm here at my house also so I think it was the best option.

I AM NOT SAYING THEY MADE THE RIGHT OR WRONG DECISION BUT WHEN YOU RUN A TOURN. YOU NEED TO SHOW UP AND TELL THE FISHERMEN THATS IT IS CALLED OFF AND WHY I HAVE RAN TOURNS. FOR OVER 25 YEARS AND I ALWAYS SHOWED UP TO TALK AND EXPLAINE WHY. I SHOWED UP IN RAIN SLEET SNOW AND STORMS..THERE WAS NINE BOATS THAT SHOWED AND WE FISHED ANYWAY HAD A GOOD LITTLE TOURN. HOPE TO SEE YALL NEXT WEEK THANKS DD22FISH emoThumbsup emoThumbsup emoThumbsup

fish hog your time on the forum settings must be on central time.... he posted that at 4:03 and 4:23 he said he would make the finnal anouncement and 4oclock so i waited till then.......saw the post and left out to the boat ramp to find out at 6:30 he changed his mind 10 mins later and didnt show to tell anyone

should make the call from the ramp like you said.I know you didnt want people to have to get out in the mess but they are alot of die hard fishnmen that will fish any condtion.the tx that i have always fish the man should up with the scales anyway to weigh the fish.that is the commint of running a tx.not saying that yall dont do a good job.I LOVE FISHING WITH YALL.this is a good tx but this is twice that this has happend.tennesee weather is crazy and you cant belive the weather man.storms can pop up out of nowhere any time in spring and can move out just as fast.FISH AT YOUR ON RISK.that is why i signed a paper saying that.fishermen are goin to have to make their on call.and if you think the weather my get bad then cancel the 500 ratman and just make it a tx that does not count for anything...thanks fishnboy see yall fri nt :bobber4

I am not going to cancel another TX. If you want to fish in tornadoes and fire blowing sideways then that is your call. fishnboy you are exactly right I have waivers from everyone of you, so fish at your own risk.

I won't fish in those conditions but I will take your money and will weigh your fish.

If the sponsor money runs out in the $500 TX due to storm induced low turnout then the $500 guarantees end the minute the money is gone.

I will see everyone Friday regardless of weather conditions.

you are absolutely right about the time setting. thanks for pointing that out ,i never realized it. i hope everyone can wipe the slate clean,be friends ,and lets go fishin.hope to meet some of you guys next week. emoGrouphug
