Duck season has ended so I made my first fishing foray of 2014 Saturday. Me and tbinchrist went chasing cold water cats. After an initial launch below the dam to capture bluegill for bait, we pulled out and headed for the Nuke.
We catfished from about 10:30 to 6 pm and overall, it was a pretty slow bite... except for one 30-minute period when things went bonkers. Otherwise it was just a fish here and a fish there.
I had one sad happening I have a rod that I bought 35 years ago ... and old fiberglass flipping stick turned catfish rod. Either cold temps or old age (or combination of both) did it in. I tried to lift a measly 6 lb. cat into the boat and it snapped clean in two. But after 35 years of use, I guess it was time to go. emoBawl
No monster cats, we didn't even lose any we thought were monsters emoBigsmile . But our four biggest fish looked like they came out of the same mold, weighing 21, 21, 21 and 22.
It was a great day. Anytime you can put 150 lbs. of catfish in the boat in 39 degree water, life is good and gettin' better every day!
