Now, how many boat operators actually know that port is left and starboard is right? So, how can you follow the rules of the water, if you don't know your left from your

ooops... is that left when you're facing it or left when you're inside it? Does that change when you turn around in your seat/ ;-}

I wish everyone that was on the water was interested in learning the correct and polite way to being a safe and courteous boater!

I agree. When running up river stay on the red bouy side and down river green bouy side. Red right return. That is about as basic and novice as it gets, yet im constantly dodging boats that are running on the wrong side. Having lights at night and using them is another. Was running Wolftever at night and a boat was sitting in the middle of a turn with their stern light off. Barely saw the tiny red flicker of their nav light and swerved. Then as i passed they turned they stern light on. Those are 2 things that are extremely simple to follow and many people seem to have a hard time with them. Rant over.

Yeah now that I've been fishing a lot more at night I 've noticed a lot of guys tend to fish with their lights off and will turn them on as soon as you get close. I guess people just don't want to be seen? Not sure bout that one but I always have mine on at night.

Port, starboard, yada yada. Just drive the boat as you would your daily vehicle. You should be on the right of the vessel or vessels you're passing. (Oncoming traffic). Why confuse people that don't have much sense to begin with??? Also, why do boats coming down the river hug the red bouy side instead of the green side?

One big thing that can solve alot of problems when someone is headed to their favorite fishing spot is to remember that your not the only one on the water!
