Senko Discussion

I fish with Yum Dingers and have had good success with them in the spring. I usually rig them weightless with a 2/0 EWG hook. When not around brush I've had success wacky style as well. My partner, birman, uses Senko's but they are too fragile for my wallet.

I like the original Senko as well. I like to fish the 4 and 5 inch weightless, and drosp shot the 3 inch when the fish get picky. Also fish them by pegging a 1/16 ounce sinker about 1.5 foot above the bait.

I hate the durn shakyhead stuff but if you can`t get a bite any other way......they`ll get get you one usually and year round too. A guy in our club has beat us over the head with it many times. He likes the 4 "" finesse worm though.
I usually wait till my partner catches 2 on it before I`ll get it out.

I like Senkos when I fish the longer sizes and often fly-line them (no weight), but I prefer Kanami for the 4" and when fishing wacky. When I t-rig the amount of weight depends on conditions and cover. I don't go down to 1/16 oz. but use 1/8 to 1/4 oz often (tungsten).

Pic of a wacky rig,

I like rigging them all sorts of ways, but wacky style can be lethal in the spring in the thick grass. The problem is getting hung in the grass because of the exposed hook. I like to take the tip of a used worm and bite it off and stick it on the tip of the hook so it does not get caught on the grass or brush. For the money I like Yum, but they tear easy. Reaction innovations makes a really cool wacky style senko that has a round ball on each end that looks great if you fish it this way. These baits are also really great to fish carolina rigged. If I am fishing them weightless I use a 5/0 superline, so they will sink a little faster, but with weight a 3/0 or 4/0.

I've tried several wacky weedless hooks but this is the Gamakatsu that works best for me in the grass at Nick and G'ville. I'm too lazy to cap the point emoBigsmile
