guys i dont know if this is the right place to post this or not.if not please move.thanks i am not much of a hunter and i need to know what a sks riffle is,and what it might be worth? the reason i am asking is i have a 125 gallon fish tank for sale and someone sent me a email and wants to trade riffle for fish tank.it is supposed to have had 1/2 box of shells fired through it.

Re: sks riffle

The SKS is a cheap inport military surplus. As far as 1/2box of shells shot through it , Well it has probably had 1/2 truckload shot through it.Some came over here years ago that were in good shape but alot are worn out. I have had a few and they are the kind you can store forever and pick it up and start firing. They hardly ever jam and are very simple.I bought one last November for $125 at a pawn shop.maybe that will help

RE: sks riffle

101, I'd post this on the hunting forum. There are a lot of smart people out there that are educated on firearms and what would be right for you.
Is this a saltwater tank or just a bare fish tank?

i would get the maker of the weapon, model # and serial number and find out as much info as possible. get pics of the weapon to see the condition it is in and find out what the bore looks like with a bore light. take the info you have and go to www.gunbroker.com, and they sell any weapon you want to know about. once you find out the asking price of one in same condition, ask yourself is it around the same value of the tank. but overall their good guns pretty much indestructible, if theyve been shot alot ths firing pins go bad, not really a big deal, its hard to go on someones word

As many have said the SKS is an old imported military rifle (riffle) Some have been sporterized with custom stocks. Some are in decent shape and many are junk. I will advise that you received TWO BIG RED FLAGS. 1. You were told that it had only a few shells fired in it. That is virtually impossible being that it is an old military weapon. 2. You were told it was worth $500.00. For $500.00 you can buy a real gun. The traders credibility ain't worth two cents, and that's my $.02 worth. I would advise you to not take that deal.

Read all about it:

I would give anyone $500 for any type of SKS. You can spend a little over $200 and get a handi-rifle in whatever caliber you desire, brand new in the box, never fired!

You can go to almost any pawn shop and get one for under $150. Pieces of junk I think but cheap to own and shoot and ammo is no problem to get.

heck i always liked the sks i have 2,,1 rifle and 1 paratrooper"carbine model",,,i like mine, never had a single problem at all out of either of them..a little costly to shoot now but all guns are,,i would have traded him,,a fish tank for a sks, wouldnt have thought twice about it myself,,although i have seen some in pawn shops and flea markets that look ruff,,id sure took a look at it,,just my 2 cents worth

i think that you made the right decision on not trading but i have had a couple and they were great guns verry reliable and accurate the ones that i had i didnt pay over 125.00 for

yes u may be right but i have gotten over 1300 in tank.

if you have 1300 in a fish tank i sure would'nt even think of tradeing it for a sks or about any rifle as far as that goes,,with 1300 you can buy a heck of a nice rifle
