Catching small spots aggravates me at times. Then I think of when I take my wife or children and they can catch a boatload.

LOL! Taking them to the Tx this weekend Dropshot?

emoPoke Ok....I asked for that one. Unfortunately, I am going to have to drop out of the tourney this weekend. With Easter upon us I thought it better to spend the day on the lake with my Dad.

WELL IF ITS NOT 18" ITS A TICKET, CALL GREG ATCHELY, IM SURE HE WILL EXPLAIN IT TO YOU!!!!!

He had better read this years fishing guide. page 14, if it is a black bass (largemouth, smallmouth, Coosa) and has a tongue patch it will be considered a spotted bass. I will be glad to explain it to him.

Carl,

Do you think that now in all of the tournaments if a fish looks like a smallie or looks like a LM and it has a tooth patch that the tournament directors will say that a fish between 12 and 18 or 12 and 15 inches will be called a spot and weighed? Just curious what you think about that.

Greg did post on this issue and he understands the rule. I got the impression he didn't agree with it, but I don't believe he will be ticketing anyone with a "brown spot".

YOU ARE READING AND EXPLAINATION OF THEIR CREEL , NOT REGS. READ IT REAL CLOSE NO WHERE DOES IT SAY WILL BE OR IS A SPOT, THAT JUST SAYS IF THE FISH MEETS ALL THE GUIDELINES OF A SPOT(GREEN AND A PATCH} THEN IT IS CONSIDERED A SPOT. WE TALKED TO BILL REEVES HE SAID NOTHING CHANGED . IF SOMETHING HAD CHANGED IT WOULD HAVE BEEN LISTED IN THE FRONT UNDER = NEW CHANGES FOR 2007. THIS IS A DEAD HORSE I WAS JUST RESPONDING TO SPUR AND YOU GUYS JUMPED IN HERE WITH AN ATTITUDE, THROW YOURS ON THE BANK ILL RESPECT MINE.

It has already happened, I fished the BITE last weekend on Watts Bar, I weighed a Smallmouth/ Spot hybrid as a spot with a tooth patch to complete a limit. Most Tournament directors are tickled, because there is no question, either it has a tongue patch or it doesn't. No argument .......

So, as long as you get to the weigh in without being caught by a TWRA guy you can weigh the fish with a tooth patch as a spot but if you get stopped with the fish in your live well then you will get a ticket and not get to weigh the fish in? That doesn't sound like it's very fair now does it?

You might try reading the regs for 2008. You're right about the 2007 regs. This is 2008 now. The new regs went into effect march 1st.

Since I'm the only one who has mentioned tossing them on the bank, I'll thank you to keep your commets about that directed at me. In pm's preferably.

The next Commission meeting is April 23rd in Nashville. If you would like the Commission to reconsider the change, I suggest you attend the meeting and ask to speak your views on the subject. I'm sure they will give you the same consideration they gave me. You will also most likely get the opportunity to speak face-to-face with Bill Reeves. Be sure to ask him his views on Spots and their impact on the fishery. He already told me how he feels about spots and what should be done with them when caught.

BTW, I don't agree with the new rule, I want to call a brown fish a smallmouth.

I talked to a game warden in bradley co.thursday,he said said any bass with a tooth patch is a spot, according to the regs.My question is,why is there a difference between the game wardens.this not a bash on them, just wondering.

Hey, FOM

I don't think there is any confusion among the enforcement officers. Last year, they had some discretion as to the ID of spots, smallmouth, etc. The new regs eliminated that ambiguity, like it or not. Top Water was still basing his comments on the 2007 book.

Sorry about that,i didn't know it was based 2007's regs.i must have missed that.thanks, for the reply.
