new for 2008 ,this section tells you what was changed by twra , its not in my book !!!!!

Actually the section is on page 16 (at least in the pdf format on the TWRA site), included in changes for 2008, All Tennessee reservoirs now have a 18 inch size restriction on smallmouth, with the exceptions of Kentucky Lake, Dale Hollow, and Douglas. A change in harvest regulation for Nickajack from Chickamuaga Dam to Suck Creek allowing an increased harvest of Spotted Bass. The identification of spot hybrids is not a reguation change per se, merely a clarification of identification per species(or for lack of a better term, sub-species).

The change in spot limit is from the Dam to South Chickamauga CreeK, not Suck Creek (I wish).

The ID of spot hybrids may not be a change, per se, but it is a huge change in mindset; removing the Enforcement Officer's discretion in the identification process. I believe most officers took the position that "if it's brown, it's a smallmouth".

actually topwater mentioned it not being in his book so I took it as he had the 2008 regulation book but his may be missing page 14 or he hasn't read that far into it yet.

Thanks MB, I guess I just was hopeful that the new zone encompassed more of Nickajack. I know that the spot conversations get old to some people. But there are a lot of anglers that for what ever reason don't read the new fishing guides each year. Nor do they even know what the state records are for the very species that they are pursuing. It is interesting that most anglers can get close to the weight for the world record largemouth, but the majority can not tell you the smallmouth or the spot record for the State of Tennessee.

It is important that all anglers know the what, when, and where relating to the health of our fisheries. As long as there is an educational debate on spots, I am going to be right in the middle of it.

Just for the record guys a tooth patch does not make a smallmouth a spot. It makes it a legal fish to keep if its under 18". It does not however magically transform a smallmouth into a spot. Around 1% of smallmouth have a toothpatch. If you catch one its a legal fish to keep thats all.Make sure however that it is a tooth patch and not a discolored spot on the fishes tounge. If you think it is a tooth patch and it turns out not to be you are going to be very disappointed in the outcome.
