I did the same thing in 1996 at the same ramp. When I pulled the boat onto the trailer it jarred the truck forward, then it slid back down the ramp on the algae. I can feel his pain. The skull island ramp gets pretty slick this time of year. So be careful.

Man, I went ramp skiing Monday on a pair of flip flops by accident there but no truck wash thank goodness! That does suck! I will be interested to hear details. Thanks for the pics Spur.

The guy that sent me the pics THOUGHT it looked like insurance job...again, thats just his opinion. I dont know anything else about it.

jenko157 - 9/2/2010 12:28 PM Makes ya think about puttin on that emergency brake. I hate it for him. Truck will probably never be the same.

"Emergency Brake" I have been thinking that was the problem the entire time I have been reading this thread. But not what you said. in fact, the opposite. Heprobablydid pull theemergencybrake. That was the problem. Most of those Dodge diesel trucks are standard shift (preferred for pulling). On the window says that truck is used for towing. Being a diesel, it was probably left running on the ramp with the emergency brake locked down. Listen/read carefully and please understand this - An emergency brakes will hold most vehicles from rolling FORWARD ONLY. There is very little to no holding yourvehiclefrom rolling backwards. That truck's brake held just enough to keep it from rolling as the driver got out. But as soon as the shifting load of the boat or it started creeping along, themomentumpicked up and the truck rolled and gained speed into the drink.

With the engine off and in a lower gear they will still move back a little due to compression relief. Most emergency brakes are worthless against rolling backwards and I will bet you that what I discribed was the case here.

If you don't believe me, get into yourvehicle, put the brake on and try to pull forward in gear, Then Put the vehicle in reverse and see the greatdifferencein holding power. You need to learn this forrampsand parking facing uphill anywhere.

Yea, going in "face first" at a launching ramp definitely makes one think this was done "on purpose."

Stolen?

Google tells me there is a "MAD Transport" in Hanoverton, OH, one in Manchester, CT and another in Pingree, Idaho. (Another in Sydney, Australia, but I doubt it's from there emoBigsmile )
