What do you guys think about the Spawn this year with this cooler weather ? last year hit around the last week of march from what i seen.

They'll want to real bad around the next full moon but it won't happen until the water temp comes up and stabilizes a bit. Based on the long range forecast I think the biggest wave will spawn around the April full moon but its really hard to guess what water temps will be like based on air temp forecast.

Given the studies and articles that I’ve read on bass behaviors not all bass spawn every year - some will skip years. With the cooler weather we’re having and the water temps not stabilizing as mentioned by jb366, that may push more bass than usual to skip out on the spawn. Cross your fingers lol.

Our fish spawn when they are ready, no matter the water level. We have fish that spawn in 10ft of water and 6” of water. Our spawn happens in waves and every year is different but the majority of our fish are spawned out by the third week in April.

I was talking to my buddy yesterday and we had both caught some really good fish moving in when the water came up in February. He told me he caught one today that already looked spawned out. His thought was that it came in when it got warm and did its business already. Who knows, but they were still spawning pretty hard through the 22nd of April last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if some did spawn in that warm spell we had but not many. I just don't think they had enough time to come out of the deep water, feed up enough to survive, bed, and spawn in the time it took the water to go from 40 to 60 and back to 50.

I agree with this. I think it happens in waves of fish so some are bedding while others are just coming out of deep water. I think the main part of it is spread out over a two or three week window.

I was there first week of April last year and caught some pigs up shallow but hadn't spawned yet. One was a 10.2 LM and she was full of eggs. I believe she was either making a bed or getting ready too. I'm coming down March 26-28 this year to see if I can get in on some more of that action.

Not all bass will spawn at the same time.. sure you'll get a huge wave but there will also be small waves all spring and into summer! Ensures the species will continue regardless if you have some event that ruins a wave's spawn.
