Spiney dorsal fin cut

I went out yesterday and noticed one of the fish I had caught had no spiney dorsal fin. Anyone ever seen that before?

That is unusual. I have seen where the first spine gets ripped from a gill net release, more so on catfish/carp than bass, but a clean cut all the way down looks like someone is cutting.

TWRA might have done that to get a DNA sample from the fish.

I don't believe they get it from the dorsal. Also it is a 1 cm piece, not the whole thing.
