I can't answer for the sales at Sportsman's, but there's a $10 off of a $100 purchase coupon in the 2012 Tennessee Fishing Guide. That'll save you something to start.

I have 2 glocks that I love but there was a comment earlier on the springfield regarding the 1911. It is true, and I find it is one thing that I dont like about the glocks, the angle that the grip comes off on the springfield is the same as a 1911. My glocks when I pull them up they are a bit barrel down to my natural grip thus creating me to adjust where the springfields dont, they come up with my grip looking straight down the sights.... Just something to consider, it all a matter of feel, you cant go wrong with either gun.

I have the Glock also and noticed the same, I love it but a guy that has many handguns said it is the handle weight that does that. Barrel down. Practice.

Put both "in your hand", one will standout... otherwise both are excellent tools.

Take a look at the Ruger sr40c,
Great all around gun, after a ton of looking and reading I got mine about a month ago...I have put about 200 rounds through it so far,,no issues and it shoots great...

It depends on how much you mess with guns, I think my Glocks are the easiest quickest to disassemble clean and reassemble, but I dont have a springfield xd or xdm so I am not sure about them. I really like the springfield 1911s, but I bought a Kimber covert ultra instead.
