Status of shad spawn on Hiwassee?

It's getting close to the time of year when I start avoiding the Chick and fish the Hiwassee...the dreaded hordes of MGMW'ers

. My father-in-law and I are debating an early start tomorrow and I figured some of you guys would know if the shad were still spawning up there. Anybody been fishing it lately?

I believe the shad spawn in the fall, maybe the shiners were spawning.

 Sahd spawn in late spring. They are spawning on Chickamauga now.</p>

They ususally spawn in the dark early morning or late evening. They will spawn right against the bank or other objects and they make a heck of a noise when they get going. Last year when we put in for the Madie tourny (which was this time of year) they were spawing right beside the Wolftever ramp about 6AM.</p>

You'll know they are in "the mood" when a bunch of shad minnows start hitting your spinnerbaits and crankbaits , they will follow the lure right to the boat. Things were trying to get lucky with my spinnerbaits this morning.
