If you have not run the boat and tested it every which way I would be VERY careful. It is hard to walk away, but keep in mind that an engine rebuild will likely run $3000. Pretty big bet that all is right. Good luck with your decision. emoThumbsup

Check the boat out! Run it first and try everything out. He may very well be completely on the level and just not trust personal checks. I can't really blame him for protecting himself. However if there is something wrong with the boat and he knows it. He may not be taking a personal check because he knows if you find out you will want to back out and he is going to say no. If there was a check you could cancel it and then he would have to do something. If none of this was possible I would sure make sure you had some kind of week return going with him to give you time to check it out. Get that in writing. If he says all sales are final and you cannot check it out I would stay away from that deal. Something would not be adding up. emoScratch Jmax

Alright guys I will do that. If he doesn't like that then oh well but surly he will understand that. If he says no to all of that I will probably just tell him no deal. It be just always wanted to be in a ranger boat with a mercury motor so hopefully it'll happen. Thanks again guys

i myself would never buy a boat not even a new one without a good test run, to many things to go wrong. and you would end up with a piece of scrap. but on the personal check i really dont blame the guy, ive had a few bad deals with a couple myself. but thats just my 2 cents . hey you just want your new boat "Right".

well ill just have to take it out like i said surly he will understand that. and yes i want it right! cant afford to have a lot of stuff go wrong. And one thing i plan to say is you couldnt trust me with a check just like i cant trust you with how good you say the motor runs

It is as simple as this. If there is anything he finds excuses for NOT allowing you to test of have checked out, then that is your first sign you are about to be screwed...

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I won't mess with it if he won't let me. Also does anyone know about the 99 mercury optis ? Heard some bad about them around that time era
