Kinda behind in reports...so Ill combine a few into one.
Ive never had the opportunity to fish Dec-Feb, so this winter is a new experience. Since the flows are up and the river is blown out, decided to start targeting the lake. Its a new learning curve, and I feel a tad out of my element.
On the 27th I got out to explore new water. My 798 I just got is a big help in this. Im told the winter bite is usually slow but better quality...well perhaps, but I can still catch dinks emoParty After a few tries with a small fish or two, I finally setup on a spot that I noticed big fish on structure. Within 10 min a rod loads up with a great 43lber!! Yay! Shortly after another great takedown unbuttons. emoRolleyes Call it a day after that.
On the last day of the year, Sam, Joe and myself were finally able to get together for a trip. We met at 11am and struck out in my boat to find a last minute 2013 big fish. The bite was slow but it went from an average day to a great winter day. Current was up so the last places wernt producing. Sam says, "Lets try someplace by that bluff, because the big fish like pretty scenery." I chose a spot along it that looked likeliest, and Joe picks up a rod to find the first fish of the day at 35lbs. We move spots and sam picks up another cutey pie blue or two. I tell them we are going to try one more spot before calling it quits. I pick a great contour near deap water and setup. We start watching silly youtube videos when rod next to me dives to the water, I pick it up and know its a good fish. This fish was a great experience! We all three took turns on it and helped get it in the boat. 56Lbs!!!! But another rod goes down with a 24Lber!
A great way to end 2013! emoParty
