Hey Churly. We did lock through yesterday. We didnt do very well.
Locking through is no big deal. Pull up to the locks slowly, pull the chain, and wait for the Lockmaster's instructions. Make sure that you have rope to tie off with, and allow plenty of time coming back, because of potential barge traffic. Never move into, or out of the locks until the Lockmaster sounds the horn or he will get pretty mad, chew you out, holding you up.
I cant remember what kind of boat you have to make a guess on gas. Hales Bar sells it if needed. I have a 20XD Bullet with a 225 Optimax, and I can run all the way down and back on 26-28 gals. My boat holds 30. My old Hydrasport used more, but the tank was much bigger. What kind of rig are you running??
