The coldest I remember was the first time I went winter fishing. I have no idea what the temperature was, but I do remember just having a hoody on and sandals with a thin pair of socks. When we blasted off and started to hit 60 mph I thought I was going to die b/c I couldn't breath! lol It was the greatest feeling ever when we were done fishing and I could get warm again! Tomorrow will probably be the coldest for me. I just hope the boat starts and the steering cables actually move! They get SO stiff in the winter!!

Be careful out there tomorrow. Wind will be coming on with it!

OK, I wasn't there but my daughters - Priscilla and Tiffany - spent Christmas/New Year's in Iceland in 2012. Of course they are MY daughters, so they rarely go anywhere that they don't finagle a fishing trip. They went ice fishing in Iceland, riding in on snowmobiles, when the temperature was -11 degrees. Yea, I raised 'em right. emoBigsmile

I don't remember the temperature on this trip to Dale Hollow. I only remember that I had to pour my coffee from my thermos over my steering cables to be able to go anywhere.

Great pics! Did y'all catch 'em?

It was a tough bite that trip.... fished a day-and-a-half (Float & Fly). I think we only caught three or four smallmouth... one was a 5 or 6 lber.... and if I remember we caught a couple of good spots.

2008, at Bull Shoals. Day 1 was perfect - mid 40s, no wind. That nite the temp dropped to 12* and by Day 2 the wind started howling like a girl-dog in heat - wind chill in the -5 range. My boat froze to the bunks. Had to leave it sitting on the ramp for about 10 mins until the 39* water thawed it out. Don't have any pics but they look like the those in rsimms' post above - snowy, grey skies, PFC. I caught a [very small] limit.

Dang, I can't tell you how happy I am to be off the lake! That wind was brutal!! Had problem with guides the entire time! Should have definitely sprayed them the night before. Broke two lews bait casters, and an eye break off of two rods. Went to back down the truck and Something just wasn't right. I thought the emergency brake was stuck. Got out and realized that one of the wheels was frozen. Once I got the trailer back in the water it did release. Pretty funny though! And the fish were cold too!! We did have a couple giant drums so at least the blood pumped a little bit!</p>

Man, you are tough for going out there yesterday. You just never know though, sometimes that one bite can come on the brutal days.

That sucks about your rods and reels - especially the lews baitcasters. expensive day on the water! are they fixable or did the frames get brittle and crack?

One of the best days I had on the water last year was 40 and raining hard..but we caught fix until we couldn't stand it anymore!

Zack1a2 if that is the day I remember it cost me a good Tennessee rig before we figured them out.

When I was younger and didn't know better, I fished from sun up to sun down one Saturday. The high for the day was 13 degrees. The steering cables kept freezing up, not to mention our reels.
If I told you I even had a bite that day it would be a lie. Heck I don't even think I got hung up. It took me until noon the next day to warm up. Me and my buddy still talk up that trip. I am too old for that crap now.
