Sounds like the great live bait bite for bass is over for the year. Went this morning... Only caught 1 small spotted bass and had only one more hit.

The threadfin were easy to come by... Catching up to 30 in one cast. Released all the threadfin after using up about 5-6 in an hour.

So, my question is... Is this bite gonna come back this year or not come back until next late May? I hear this is just a post-spawn pattern.

Well, looks like it is back to going to Parksville again!

I think it is over and fished-out, as there were too many reports giving extremely detailed info on where to catch them. IMO

I am sure there are some other places to get into quantity that have had alot less presure this year. That cant bethe only place to do this.

I was wondering how long it would last,,,
Spur,Im just gessing but it would seem like there would be those pockets of fish all up and down the river, just need to be located, look for where the baitfish hang out heavy..

Nope, couldn't find any balls of baitfish on the finder, except in the spot that we've been catchin them in and the boils. I don't know, I guess all the bass have recovered enough from the spawn and are slowing down on the feed.

You're right, Spur.... there are plenty of different places they've been catching them in.

This is a post-spawn pattern. These areas that are hit so hard are only the easily findable spots - this pattern happens in a lot of places - not just with visible structure (such as buoys!!!) - along the channel edge where there is a structure change. It's basically over for this year, although there will be some fish available in those spots for much of the year.

I honestly feel horrible for those poor bass, there isn't another spot on the whole lake that gets that much pressure. Anytime I've been out in the evenings, there is no less than 6 boats fishing there. Let's just hope most of them didn't get put on dinner plates.

I was there yesterday too...actually right beside crazy when he caght that 1 bass. We only boated 2 fish at the secret hole...1 bass and a drum. It was nice meeting you Kevin although i really dont think you knew who I was. I will post a report later on the other fish we caught.

Chris,

I take a limit of 4 lbers home every single time emoPoke. Actually the only fish I have seen anyone keep were ones that didn't swim off.

Wasn't alluding to forum members or to any one person, but I do know from actually seeing it..that quite a few good fish have been taken home to the frying pan from that spot.

I'm pretty much to blame for the crowd there, but I just can't decide how to feel - I posted too much too often with too much detail and probably took too many people out there, especially last year, BUT on the other hand there are a lot of folks now enjoying the fishing that would not have had the opportunity otherwise. A blessing and a curse at the same time. A blessing in that the fishery seems able to handle the pressure (thank you all for your catch and release) and many folks can catch many fish, but a (whispered) curse will be heard by 3 other boats! You've got to be friendly to fish there, that's for sure!! emoGrouphug

I feel sorry for the catfish caught in the HUGE NETS AND TROTLINES!

If commercial fishermen stopped taking catfish by the hundreds and thousands, I'd leave the bass alone to the people that are entitled to fish for them. There'd be so many catfish I could never stop fishing for them.

By the way, I found bass all over the banks this spring, they are all over the place. I'm sure someone has been smart enough by now to catch some bait, and find some more ledges and structures

AND NOT POST THE PICTURES ON THE FORUM!

Let's all just admit it, we love to get on here and brag, and end up paying the price!

I used to love fishing this time of year but I have trouble getting into it right now. There seems to be a limited number of good places on the lake to fish and there are always 3-6 boats on every spot I want to fish. The nuke area makes me sick. Before cff nobody fished there. Now everytime I go by there are several boats sitting on the best spot. If they built a fishing pier out to that spot it wouldn't get any more pressure.

The bass that I have been catching are making their way out to the river channel holding in 25 and 30 feet of water. You can see them on your graph. Just find them schooled up. They may not be in the same place the next day or even the next hour. Bait fish pull them to different areas but they will be close by. You have to trust your graph and put the bait down where the fish are. That depth may vary from 30 or 40 feet deep sometimes and even 50. I've only caught a handful of bass over 50' feet deep. Just be ready to either eat a limit of bass or Fizz them as some on here have inquired about how to do.

Nice info Berry. It's just so hard to break old habits and stop throwing at shore. Maybe we all get spoiled knowing that others have/are catching fish in one particular spot and we mentally get locked into it. Explore and find them. They are there somewhere. And from what we've all read about Bass is that they are usually caught within 300 yds of where they were tagged or caught previously. Scientist that is. They are near by, just seek them out. And they shall bite. Eric isn't responsible nor are any of us, necessarily. Anyone driving up and down the river can see that spot is hit hard and regularly. How hard is it to ride by, see a guy hauling one in and maybe a good one and want to come back another day to hit that same spot?!?!?!?! It happens. DHaun was there, but off to the side and on his own spot. He looked like he wasn't doing crap, but when we pulled up to him, his report said otherwise. He was just pecking around for another spot where structure sustained schools of fish just as BFG is telling us. Gotta seek them out I would think.
